I might not have to say a damned thing.....just got the perc test on the lot. Normal septic is out, water table too high. Cost for an engineered one: 3x as much + engineering fees and the building and health department STILL might deny permits.

Looks like I'm not moving after all....... :-( I will however be losing the $1000 deposit on the lot, $995 architect fee for house plans I won't be using, and $450 for the perc test. :-(

That plain old sucks. The contract required a nonrefundable deposit? SUCKS even worse. I'm so sorry. Sad

Now looking into how much it costs to have enough dirt brought in to physically raise the lot up about a foot in the middle....that's why it didn't pass. It's the lowest lot on the block. The lady is going to see if she can get me my deposit back. She could see I felt really bad about bailing on her and how much I wanted to live there and be her neighbor.
She let me dig up my plants and put them in pots and offered me a rhubarb plant if I have a place for it. How nice is that?

Wish me luck it doesn't cost too much for dirt here.....

Also check if you can trench to take water out to the street or drainage ditch. Around here, people can take water off their lots that way, and they wait until it's DRY to do a perk test. Does the county do the test, or can you hire a survey company?

The county hires someone from Belvidere to do it. I signed up with a site called dirtfill.com. Contractors look for fill or give you fill either for free or cheap. Posted 700 cu. yds. needed so we'll see if anyone has that much, told them why I needed it too. Also put in requests for free quotes from 2 local companies here for dirt.

Held off on rescinding my offer for 2 weeks to see if I can pull this off. Then wait to retest for a dry week.
If they had tested right away after I put in the last request it would've passed....barely, but passed. Wish me luck.

Today was catching up on things I haven't done yet this week. Laundry... Gardening... It was nice to have a day with no real expectations so I could just do things with no pressure.

Lot is gone....looks like no house for me anywhere now. Sad

In less than a week they've cut off my phone and medical coverage with NO warning or notification, and now my food too (at least they sent me a letter about that). Local pantry cut me off too on May 19th (you can retire at 59 1/2 and you're getting disability now and an inheritance - I hadn't gotten a check yet from disability and the inheritance is held until I reach retirement age of 67). Only thing this god forsaken state hasn't cut yet is my housing. Trying to get ahold of someone, anyone, to tell me why got me.....nowhere. They just don't answer the phone, no answering machines, they just hang up on you before you can get past the $#!@%! computer and get a human. Sorry for the rant but I feel like strangling someone right now....if I were in springfield right now I'd be kicking major butt.

How is going from approx. $600 gross income working vs $776 in disability (just awarded) enough "increased income" to merit cut me totally off?

I've wasted so much time today on the computer trying to find email addresses, phone numbers, etc and also on the phone I borrowed from mom being put on hold for an hour, then hung up on, or just plain ol' hung up on within 5 minutes. NO human contact at all. This has been the week from hell for me!

Any suggestions on states that have Medicaid for single childless adults, decent priced housing, and low crime? I am ready to max out my credit card to move out of this hellhole of a state.

They sure don't in this state, the more they can boot off the better our state finances look. I have to start all over again with the phone (apply, wait, hope to be approved)...meanwhile I have mom's as a loaner so I'm not cut completely off.
Medical is straightened out but won't kick in until the 1st AFTER my blood test and rheumatologist appointment that can't be rescheduled.
RAMP is going to help me with the SNAP people. Left 4 phone messages on 4 different phone numbers for those people and no call back yet.

Blueberry picking! The farm is right on the water, so there was a beautiful breeze, and picking was great. It is still a week or so from high season, but I got 5 pounds in an hour. I think we'll be back next weekend for more to stock up for the rest of the year. I love blueberries, and at $2.00/pound, picking our own is a great deal. They are about $5/pound in the store.

I've had store ads with $1/lb and I get them then. In fact I have some blueberries in the fridge right now.

Today: up after only a few hours sleep, take my antibiotic and pain pill, eye drops, breakfast, clear out tons of email, now off to take a nap with an ice pack on my jaw.

Going to a picnic. Gonna be hot. I am bringing Mexican corn salad, which has only olive oil on it, so we don't have to worry about mayo going "off" in the heat.

It was really fun. We got to splash around in the Bay. Surprisingly, there were no jellyfish. We were supposed to kayak, but it was just too warm. The swim was fun.

Going to Northern VA to see polo with a friend. I have never attended polo, so this will be fun. I better check out the rules. I know they play chuckers, and that's about it.
