The possums that show up at the back door. i try to remember to save stuff from the salad bar so they won't always be eating cat food.

I know that they are omnivores but I don't like to put out bones because of the Rodent Patrol. I did save the cores from the apples for the pie I made.

Smile Understand that. I put the chicken bones out down the street. I try not to invite opossums to the property because they don't do well with horses (EPM and all). But, I do think that they're very useful, and don't mind feeding the mom and babies I know live down the road.

our bird bottle has a new nest in it. I am not sure what kind of bird made a home there, but I see a few twigs and some hay sticking out of the front. I'll have to keep an eye on it for the next few days to see if I see someone coming and going.

Thanks! We're full up on feeders. Have you tried changing the kind of seed in the window feeder? I'm not sure what kind of birds you have near you, and which ones would like windows. Our chickadees like the window. They prefer the smaller seeds.

An owl attacked my car last night. I was minding my own business driving down the road when a HUGE owl swooped out of a tree and right across the front of my car. It just flew into some trees on the side of the road, so I don't know why it flew so close. I was very happy that I didn't hit it.

That was scary. The owl. Maybe the car flushed a potential meal.

I've bought a blend that Wildbirds Unlimited recommended, they rarely go wrong with suggestions. It may be the location

Maybe. If there's reflection, maybe they think there's another bird at the feeder. We don't have window feeders because the hanging feeders are close to all the windows. We put the shepherd hooks near the windows so we can see. I think another feeder too close would make for bird chaos. Smile

I agree. I think it's location. The only reason I put it there was so Antonio and Trina could watch the wildlife show.

Speaking of wildlife. Kelly, a possum, has been hanging out and grazing on the cat food. I thought I had put the food out of his reach and he climbed up on the deck chair and grazed away. I took some photos, then put some grapes out for him.

They like grapes?! Wow. I discourage opossums here since they carry EPM, and I don't want them around the horses. But, I know they hang out down the street where there's lots of small things to eat. I have some grapes that are getting kind of old. Maybe I'll bring them down there.

Smile I don't share pineapple. I eat it all!

Today's wildlife sighting was nice, fat worms in the holes I dug for my new fig trees. My wonderful friend gave me 2 trees for Christmas. The weather is getting warm, so I thought it was time to plant them. I hope I get some figs this year. Next year, each tree should have 2 harvests. So excited! And the worms will help keep the soil happy.

Today, I met one of our local herons. He was in one of the retention ditches next to the road. When I drove by, he took off and led me down the street. He flew (SLOWLY) down the road until he found a tree he wanted to perch in. It was funny to follow him. He's impressive. Huge and elegant.

On our walk today, Bingo and I saw our first box turtle of the spring. He was moseying across the road. I picked him up and put him on the side he was heading for so he wouldn't get smashed when someone came down the road. He was a good size and pretty energetic with the warm weather.

Tonight, an opossum led me down the road. I was driving home, and the little guy came off the shoulder like he was trying to show me the way. It was funny. He was nice and fat. I bet he's been snacking on the neighbors' cat food that they seem to feel the need to leave out all night.
