Gateway from twig to pig

Post by bpaquet on Mon Aug 02, 2010 10:47 pm

Just 2 months ago, he was on a starvation diet. He would hardly eat a bite. Now, he seems to try everything. Tonight I had a grilled peach with some yogurt and honey on it. He was begging like nobody's business. I gave him the leftovers -- complete with peach juice and honey. Do you know that kitty snarfed it all down and licked the bowl completely clean? I think his ulcers are all better!

I'll say! If his ulcers were bothering him he sure wouldn't act like that. I've never heard of a kitty who'd eat peaches before.

I'm not at all surprised that he ate the grilled peach combo. That sounds completely wonderful Smile

He's back to being Garbage Gut Gateway. He licked my cereal milk this morning. I'm going to have to start watching how much kitty junk food he eats so he doesn't get chubby. He is just perfect now.

Glad to hear that Gateway is back to his old
self. The grilled peach with ice cream sounds
heavenly. I'm going to go for this weekend.

i wonder if a kitty would eat peaches and cream? ( when i left home i left with a box of the largest and juiciest peaches (from our back yard) that i've ever had.....i would gladly share one with a kitty or two if i had them!).

I don't think Gateway was as into the peaches as the yogurt. But, he wasn't grossed out by it. He did eat the whole thing.

Happy dance for Gateway!! Yes, watch his people-food intake, but surely peaches, honey and yogurt (especially the latter) can't be too bad! Actually, they say yogurt restores the good flora in people-guts. Maybe it's the same for kits and he's homing in on what he needs. Question

is honey good for animals? i'm not sure just who can and cant' eat it cuz they say not to give it to little kids because it could have boculism or something in it(which doesn't hurt adult humans).
yogurt is always good for all of us:)

I think some of that is that his tummy feels better and some is that he isn't overmedicated for his heart. Some of those meds say they can cause tiredness, dizziness, nausea. Well... They must have done that. Right now, he's on a TINY dose of lasix and one Enalpril every day. His breathing is steady and he has lots of energy. So, his heart must be functioning ok. We go back to the cardiologist in November. (Had to reschedule next week's appointment because I can't afford it! Shocked ) He is fine clinically, so I'm not worried about pushing out the appointment. The doctor said that should be fine as long as he's doing well. We can always come earlier if he has an "episode."

He has decided that sweaty saddle pads are a kitten's best sleeping place. I rode today and hung the saddle pad over a hitching post outside the barn to dry (before putting it in the washing machine to get wet Neutral ). Well... He hopped up on the hitching post and proceeded to nap on that stinky pad. I've never seen any kitty do that before. Oh well... he is unique, isn't he?

maybe there's something in the smell of the horse ..or the mix of horse and wool (is it made of wool?) that is comforting!

not great to hear that you had to cancel the kitty doc appointment due to finances but good to hear that's he's doing so well you don't have to worry about missing the appointment;)

I will be done paying for my truck in October, so moving the appointment is better. The appointment costs almost as much as a truck payment, so I will be used to spending the money, but it won't be like making 2 truck payments in one month -- OUCH.

He is doing fine though. He just turned up his nose at some chocolate ice cream. He might be a garbage gut, but he does have his standards. Laughing

I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at chocolate ice cream, but am glad Gateway did. Chocolate isn't good for kitties. If that ice cream had any real chocolate or cocoa in it he was very wise to pass it up. Maybe Gateway would like strawberry better?

I know... I also know that he won't eat chocolate, so when he begs, we show him the bowl and he stalks away like we should have special vanilla just for him. I don't know if he'd like strawberry. I don't, so he won't get the opportunity to try -- unless I can find some of the home made stuff that has real strawberries in it. Smile

Poor little guy has a sore on his leg. We think OK pounced him and might have got a bite on that leg. I've been cleaning it with antibacterial stuff that the vet gave me when Petie had an abscess, and the sore's starting to heal. I still feel bad for him.
