Couldn't waste a beautiful August day, so we had a nice, relaxing after work ride. Nothing special. Just walking and trotting around the pasture. He was a little spooky in one corner, so I think the horse eating squirrels are out. Maybe Bip and Bop are waiting to drop a walnut on his head. Laughing

Very silly pony, a nut won't hurt much. The squirrels are probably more afraid of the pony than the pony is of them.

So muggy and hot today that the horses were sweating just grazing. I brought them in for the afternoon. It might storm tonight, but they'll stay out unless it gets bad.

It was a little less muggy today, so we had a nice, short ride. After the storms, the flies decided that they could come out, so we just were out until the spray gave up.

My former trainer and I joined a local riding group, so maybe we can find some new places to go and people to go with. We are both doing mostly casual trail riding kinds of things, so it would be nice to find new adventures.

I hope so. We want to go on some fun trail rides when the fall weather gets here. Envoy and I had fun today. We mostly rode in the empty lot next door, but we walked down the street a bit too. Envoy conquered the real estate sign and was very brave. Laughing

The weather is beautiful, so we had to ride around the pasture. It wasn't anything special, but we can feel autumn in the air. There is some more hot weather, I think, but the change is coming. Envoy feels perkier. He did have a funny reaction to a mosquito on his umm... private parts. He stopped, backed up, swung his leg at his belly, then reached around to bite at it. I reached under with the riding crop, and think I chased the nasty thing away, but it was funny to see all the things he was trying. Poor guy.

Another nice day. We rode down the road, and had a really nice time except for the mosquitoes. We've had some showers, and the bugs are out in force away from our property. I guess that means we've down a good job with control here, but the woodsy areas are not so great.

Seems like around here, go outside and get swarmed with skeeters except the yards where people sprayed since the village doesn't.
They took so much blood from me in the hospital the skeeters are going after mom instead of me......a first in my life!

The big rain yesterday brought our first noticeable swarm. We have a mosquito magnet in the yard, which keeps the area around the house and barn pretty biter-free, but when I take Bingo down the road, it's crazy. No spraying here, and I won't do it at home because I want the bees and hummingbirds to be happy.

Horses are having fun in the puddles. It's been pretty dry this summer, and now they can splash around in some sizable puddles.

Last night I had dinner with a few local horse people I'd never met before. We all signed up through a MeetUp event, and had a good dinner and great conversation. We're going to meet for lunch next weekend, and hopefully get a few more people together. We're trying to plan some nice, relaxed fall rides. It was surprisingly fun. We had people from 35 to 70 years old at dinner, and we like all different kinds of riding. But, it was fun to just talk ponies.

Right now, it doesn't look like Irma is coming our way, but we have our evacuation plans in place. The horses will go to the barn where Spring is now. She's near Farmville, which is about 2 hours inland and up the hills before you get to the mountains. The rest of us will be at my friend's house. I really hope this thing decides to stay out to sea, but I've heard scary things from Florida. Neutral

It's looking bad for Florida. Sad We still need to watch because it might still turn. I am hoping it avoids all land, but it sure doesn't look that way. The ponies are sticking to their plans. Right behind Irma is Jose. Over the season already!

The entire state of Florida is on notice, the southern half is being evacuated. I have a cousin there.
