About 20 bales. I won't buy the same quality I do in the winter. Now, they just need something to chew on. They get all the nutrition they need from the grass and little bit of feed they get. Smile Thank goodness, it's affordable since the truck and trailer decided to eat up all the spare change. Laughing

Weather was pretty nice for high summer today. I was just getting ready to ride. Then, the skies opened. We need a little rain for the grass and gardens, but the timing wasn't great.

Far too hot today/tomorrow to ride. Heat indices in the 100s. Sunday is supposed to be nicer. Maybe I'll hop on for a little while. Tonight, the stalls are clean and hay nets are full. I'll fill water before I bring them in to stand under the fans tomorrow.

The humidity is surprisingly not too bad. It is muggy if you're from the west, but for here, it's a reasonable 67%. It is hot, but not too nasty. The horses are in under their fans because the flies do love a hot day. Poor Kina was run/limping around. I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to let them stand in comfort.

The weather this morning is beautiful. I was standing at the kitchen sink and looking at the horses in their "new" pasture. Kina was flat out in a sun puddle. Envoy was stand-sleeping over her. It was the sweetest picture to see first thing. Now, they're both awake and grazing in the shade.

Damned hot already, and I'm just prepping for my trip to get hay. I'm hoping to get home and get it stored before the PM thunderstorms. Looks like a day for a hose shower before going back inside to the AC/shower.

We had a short rain shower here, which means the humidity is back over the moon again.

It's thundering all around us, but not a drop of rain yet. We could use a little. It's already humid. Why not make it tropical? Razz

If it's that humid the least the weather could do is give you some rain! At least that would make the humidity worth bearing.

I'm trying to be careful of what I wish for. Too much rain would bring the dreaded mosquitoes. They're manageable now. If we go back to puddles with this warmth, we'll need to hide for a while since the biters will be out.

The horses are enjoying a slight cool down this weekend. It's only in the high 80s/low 90s. They're still coming in for the afternoons, but they get to stay on the grass later in the afternoon before the flies decide to make Envoy run around. We'll be back to the oven later in the week. It still beats freezing in the winter!

We hit 100 degrees today. The horses came in early. I had to clean stalls in the morning because I was lazy last night. When I was done filling water buckets, I stood at the gate, and asked the horses if they wanted me to spray them. They both walked over and stood under the hose shower. They turned around so all sides could get a shower. Then, they came in to stand under the fans. It was a tough day to be a horse.

It was humid here too after all the drenching, gully washing rain we got Wednesday and Thursday. In fact, it was coming down so hard Thursday morning it took an extra hour to get to my doc appt. in Chicago...barely made it in time to be on time. At times I thought we'd have to pull over since we could barely see out the window to drive (I got a ride thru my insurance company; you couldn't pay me enough to try to drive in Chicago traffic).
We will have TONS of mosquitoes here in about 2 weeks or less. Mom got bit last night and we were only out for 5 minutes nowhere near dusk.

I drove in Chicago. The traffic is thick, but the people are WAY nicer than east coast cities. I turned in the car because parking was beastly, but driving wasn't too bad. I almost had a heart attack when I put on my signal (my brother-in-law calls them "indicators") and someone made space for me to move over. Here, that's an indication that you're coming. Move or get hit. Razz

Today is a bit cooler, but very sticky after our rain yesterday. I'm not going to complain. We needed the rain. The horses look happy outside so far. We will have mosquitoes too, but it's typical for the swamp. They'll be gone soon enough. I just hope we don't hatch a crop of chiggers!

I hear ya there Becky. When we went for my grandpa's funeral we ended up in the heart of Atlanta. Made Chicago drivers seem polite by comparison.

So humid this morning you could cut it with a knife, it was just hanging in midair......just had a 1/2 hour gullywasher, now the sun is playing peekaboo with us. We need a break from all this humid wet weather. My AC is running nonstop and I need to let the wiring in the walls cool off! I'll have a heart attack when I see my next utility bill.

It's in the 70s here! I was in Richmond for the last 2 days, and it was in the 90s there. So, 80 miles from home, it was 20 degrees warmer. Crazy! Still no rain. I'm worried that the pastures are stressed. We really could use a little of your rain.

It finally cooled off here too. The AC is off today, for now. The rain finally quit too, for now.

And now the ground is softer, and the weather is amazing. Envoy went around the property to enjoy the beautiful weather. We both had a good time and are amazed that it's like late September rather than the end of July.

We had a really nice ride today. The weather was perfect - warm enough to be sane horse weather, but low humidity so it was completely comfortable. We walked and trotted, and had a good time just playing around. Envoy told me when the gnats started to come up out of the grass. Then, it was time for both of us to head inside.
