Had a really nice ride on Envoy today. The weather is GORGEOUS. It was in the 70s with nice sun and breeze. If the leaves weren't green, I'd think it was fall. The mosquitoes did come out at dusk, so we packed it in. The horses are in the barn for a few hours to get some deep sleep rest. They'll go out when we start getting ready for bed.

$1000 of hay ordered. Sigh... It's beautiful, but I so don't want to spend that much money. Oh well... The kids gotta eat.

Envoy and I went for a nice walkabout in the big pasture. We started going down the road, but there were some really fast cars, and I decided not to play with that. We worked on opening gates, turning around in the trees, and backing up. He did really well, and only hopped over the big puddle between the paddock and field. Silly boy. He didn't want to get his feet wet. Smile

No riding today. It was really muggy, and the mosquitoes decided to come out right as I got home from work. I brought the horses in. Things should calm down now that it's dark. The nasty little buggers like to swarm up at dawn and dusk, so we keep the horses in then. I guess they are worse now because we had some good rain.

And will be worse in two weeks because of the rain. That's how long it takes a batch to hatch and make your life miserable.

Eh... We live in the swamp, so it's nothing unusual. They haven't been as bad as in years past because we've been really diligent about getting rid of standing water in the summer. If only it worked for the floody winter too!

I rode Kina yesterday since it wasn't too sauna like. We were merrily trotting around the pasture when she saw the DOWNED TREE. It's been dead for a long time, and it fell sometime yesterday. I bet it made a ton of noise since the trunk cracked. Anyway, in her perfect Kina way, she shied to the side in total balance, and took off at the most lovely canter/gallop. She never lost her balance, and never unseated me. She's the PERFECT pony. Smile After she went around for a bit, she decided she was having fun and just did a wonderful transition to a walk. I decided that we'd end on that note since she seemed happy.

No riding today. It stormed a lot earlier, and it's still a little wet/muggy. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice again. The horses are a bit tired anyway. They've been out at night for about 5 days. Sleepy!

A nice Envoy ride today. The weather was great, so we did walk exercises until the deer flies started biting. He is working on backing up to strengthen that stifle. We also do lots of transitions between long, stretchy walk and more collected. That helps his abs and back.

It's always good to work on the basics. I know my back feels better when I sit up straight and when I take time to walk at lunch.

Envoy and I walked around the big pasture again. He tripped over something, and I thought we were goners, but we recovered with no fussing. Good pony! We had to go investigate. Turns out that he got his foot caught on a vine that is creeping through the grass. Needless to say, I went back out after our ride and pulled that thing up.

I hate the thought of the horse going down with me aboard. It's NEVER good when that happens. We both like to stay upright, thanks. Smile

The weather was absolutely beautiful today. Temps in the upper 70s/low 80s. Unfortunately, I couldn't ride because I had to run errands for the cats and dog after work. Got home in time to move dead hay out of the stall I'm going to use for Wednesday's delivery. Maybe tomorrow...

My friend and I rode Cree yesterday. He hasn't been ridden in at least 2 years, so we had a short session. He was a champ and he is sound! He had a great attitude about us swapping back and forth, plowing around the pasture, and asking for walk, trot, and canter. I am so proud of him.

Today was farrier day, so everyone gets today off. Tomorrow, I might put the saddle back on Cree. I also am thinking I might call the vet about Envoy's stifles. I really should get those fixed.

Well... I didn't even come home after work, so no riding today. I have no plans for tomorrow though. Maybe I can ride more than one. I wonder if that would just KILL me  Eating

Yesterday, I had a GREAT ride with Kina. We just worked on lots of basics for me. She's such a good girl. Today, I rode both Envoy and Cree. Envoy trotted, which is a big deal. He did have a minor spook, and galloped about 3 steps until he decided it couldn't be that scary. (No clue what "it" was.)

Cree did fine. He needs to learn to bend and relax his jaw. But he was fine. He bellowed a few times, and one time stopped to pee. I guess he's not used to being socially presentable.  Razz

Another gorgeous day, so it was Kina's turn again. Since I rode as the sun was setting, the mosquitos had started to come out. So, we did a LOT of trotting. We had a blast zooming around the pasture, doing some lateral work, and practicing trot/stop/trot. She's just the coolest little girl. She even agreed to cool down by walking down the street a little way.
