Look what the neighbors dragged in

Post by bpaquet on Sun Oct 13, 2013 8:51 pm

My neighbor came over with a tiny kitten who wasn't doing so well at his (??) farm. His mom wasn't nursing him any more, and he's a bit skinny. So, here he is. I will call the vet tomorrow to try to get him in for the checks. Gray Kitty and Gateway are not very happy, but handling it as well as can be expected. The new one will spend his time in his own room while we're at work just to be sure he has some privacy and can use the box/eat/drink without the big guys bothering him.

Here are some pix of his first day.

He's a pretty little guy, and has his own room, no less.

Other than an accident, he's fine. He pooped outside the box. I don't think he's had much exposure to litter boxes. It'll be a training thing. He's eating like crazy and played with some new toys for a while. Now, he's snoozing on my lap. Smile

Well... Now he's running around and pouncing. He climbed my husband's leg, and is now attacking his shirt. He's getting playful. That's a good sign. GK and Gateway are still unimpressed and are hiding in different rooms. They will eventually introduce themselves. The older guys have made one appearance tonight to leave their hisses.

I'm sure GK and Gateway will remember their manners and humble beginnings and go
back to being the gentlemen that they are. Playing is good.

OMG, he is absolutely adorable!!! I'm sure the hissing will stop soon. Peace and quiet however might not return for a while. Playful kittens tend to make older kitties remember what it was like to riproar through the house like a herd of elephants at 3am. Shocked

He's a WILD THING! Today, he was zooming all over the living room. He climbed our legs, jumped on/off the couch. Then, disaster! We went to get a little dinner and he peed on the couch. YUCK! No I immediately put him in the box and went about cleaning up. He was so good about using the box all day. I guess he just zoomed himself into having to go bad.

Tomorrow is vet day. We go at 10 to make sure he's good to associate with the other kitties. He is probably too young for shots yet, and he's definitely not ready for surgery. I did contact the spay/neuter clinic to ask them how big/old he needs to be. 3 pounds or 3 months, whichever comes first. Smile

YUCK!!!No  Is right. Baking soda and vinegar work well. You might spray the couch with comfort zone.

Here we spay/neuter at two pounds/two months.

Reminds me of little kids who are so busy playing they forget to come in to use the bathroom.....my cousin was like that. Afraid if he came in my aunt would make him take a nap.
Around here it's 2# ......age doesn't matter, you get to 2# and you get snipped.

You know Becky, Wild Thing sounds like a good name. You know Wild Thing
you make my heart sing. On that note I think I'll go nap with Antonio.

My little kittens are kept penned up close to a litterbox when we are not there to supervise, partly to help in litter training, and partly to keep them safe from the big cats, who can be pretty mean at times.

That sounds like the safe plan. He got to be out and about all day today. Since I worked at home, the big boys were outside enjoying the sun. He spent the day pouncing his toy mouse and running to the box or food dish as needed. We also have a small box downstairs now. The other one is too big.

Vet visit went well. He's COVERED with fleas (as we knew), and has ear mites (which we suspected). He also might have the remnants of an upper respiratory infection, but he isn't running a fever, so all is probably clearing up. He's too young/small/maybe getting over URI for shots, so he goes back next week to start the immunizations. The vets also say that as soon as we can tell he's a "growing" boy, he can have surgery. He's 1.5 pounds now, so a bit small for anesthesia, and there's nothing there to operate on now. The spay/neuter clinic likes the kitties to be a bit larger because they deal with so many feral and stray cats. Apparently the surgery isn't the problem. It's the unsupervised recovery. Bigger kitties recover more quickly.

OMG! I forgot to tell you his name. He is Killmouski. It comes from an episode of "Midsomer Murders." I'm hoping he'll live up to the name by exterminating the pooping rodent that seems to enjoy visiting the kitchen.

Since Sue mentioned Wild Thing, that describes Junko right now. I may look more into Midsomer Murders.

I love BBC mysteries. Check out Acorn TV. You can find a lot of cool shows/videos there.

Day one of ear treatments and flea spray went well. I spray a towel with Adams flea spray and rub Kilmouski all over to kill the fleas. He had fewer today than yesterday at the vet's. They recommended this treatment since he's still too small for the spot treatments. The other kitties are getting that just so they don't pick up any of the nasty little things.

Kilmouski hates the ear drops. He's good for them, but as soon as they're in both ears, he RUNS away and shakes his ears. One more day of the every-day treatment. Then, once a week for 3 weeks. It shouldn't be too bad.

I bought a brush today. Since he's a medium hair kitty, he will need the brush. I figure I need to introduce it early since the other guys just don't like it and won't show him how to be good about it.
