A Wynter's tale

Post by gbste on Tue Aug 13, 2013 9:18 pm

Today during school I received this email from SCARF's "animal coordinator":

G this dog is Wynter that I had in January, AWESOME dog he stayed right here even when not in dog run and me not outside, good with all my dogs, walks nice on leash, good in the crate at night.

but I had to return to owner even after we had dog for over a week and dog had been at the pound several times.

I did not want to give dog back but did. Dog hunkered down when he saw the owner and slunk around me and the kids did not even look up from their video games when we opened the door to let him in their car.
I have regretted it and did not/do not think they really care for him.

I told him if the dog ever showed up at the pound again I would NOTcontact him and do not intend to do so. Dog did have our rabies tag and IF the pound should call that it will be registered to us not that owner.

problem is I am leaving today and out of town thru evening 18th and I dont want someone to adopt him.

would you be able to keep him at your place while I am gone?

Sooo, Wynter is now out in my foster dog kennel.  He's very sweet, and should be very little trouble.  I've treated his ears for fly strike, and I got him fed with no problems.  He rode nicely in the car.  He's in need of a bath, but he'll have to stay dirty until the weekend.

Since he was at the dog pound, we can assume that he left on his own.

He's adorable! I never can understand how people can't care for or about animals. He looks like such a faithful boy. I'm glad he's found something better.

He's such a good boy. He comes when called, he is great with my dogs, he sits and waits to go through a door or a gate, and he just loves any kind of attention. I need to get him brushed and bathed, but I won't have a chance to do that until Saturday. We've had rain almost every day lately (so weird for us!), and Wynter and Walt have been mudlushious.

Sounds like a very good dog who got smart enough to seek somebody who'd appreciate him. (and if at first you don't succeed, try try again....) Obviously his previous owners didn't appreciate him.

Wynter is about the best dog ever! The only bad thing he's done is remove Walt's collar, but he may have had a good reason for that.Laughing  If it weren't for Abby the terrorist Schnauzer, we'd be in serious danger of foster failure at our house. Of course, that was true when we had Duncan as well. Tomorrow Wynter will have a day of beauty, and I'll get him brushed up and bathed so that he'll be all ready to go to his real foster home.

I should probably get some pictures of him before Walt reapplies the mud. That way we can get him loaded onto Petfinder as well.

Re: A Wynter's tale

The grooming turned into quite an adventure.  When I brushed him, I found a tick on his face and flea dirt in the fur that brushed off.  The bath turned into a flea bath after that.  He was very patient and obedient, and let me wash him down, wait for 5 minutes, and rinse him off.  I have some nice conditioner that was donated to the rescue by the Wag n Wash store where we have our petfairs, so I used that too.  Of course, that turned out to have a 10 minute wait, but Wynter was very calm about the whole thing.  We went out to get Frontline for all the dogs, since they all have been hanging out together.  No one here had it, so we got a different brand of the same type of treatment at the Big R store.  He cleaned up really nicely, actually.

He looks fantastic. Smile I've used the less expensive Frontline stuff. It seems to work just as well.

What a handsome boy! Smitten

He almost looks like two dogs, noble front and scrappy back. Is that just how the pics turned out, or does he have a unique physique? Not that there's anything wrong with that; for the right owner, mutt-ness is an endearing plus.

He does look like this. I don't think he's a pure bred aussie. He needs to gain a lot of weight, so when he fills out, he may look a little different.

Wynter does not have a tail, just a little nub. He has to wag his butt when he's happy.

Grommit only had a stub of a tail, and he wouldn't wiggle his whole but no matter how excited he was; only the little nub would wag. It was cute too.

Wynter went to his actual foster home yesterday. Walt and I miss him already, but he literally went to a beautiful farm where he can run and play with other dogs, so I don't feel bad for him at all.

I have no doubt Wynter will find a forever family asap! So cute, so unique....and intelligent too. Who could resist that? Especially when he was such a trooper for his bath, etc.
