Michael Ansara

Post by Sue Short on Fri Aug 02, 2013 11:09 pm

I just saw that Michael Ansara died at the age of 91. For Star Trek fans he was best known
as Kang, a Klingon commander and reprised(sp) the role in some of the sequels. For the more
mature among us he was known as Cohise in Broken Arrow.

He was also in a few I Dream of Jeannie episodes as Jinn, the Head Genie....he was not a very nice guy in that role.  I also remember him as a soldier of the future from an episode of The Outer Limits.

I saw that in his filmography. Also he was born in Syria.

So that's where he was from! Never could figure it out from the accent.

His parents brought him to the U.S. when he was two.

That's pretty young. He still had a hint of an accent, no doubt picked up from his parents.

My father had the tiniest bit of an accent too, and he was born here, though his first language was not English.  He did learn English, however, at a very young age, and I'm sure around the house when he was a kid, Romanian was the language of choice.
