I saw on the news that Esther Williams passed today she was 91. I know my mother and
my aunts loved her. I think she promoted Janzaten Bathing Suits because that was the only brand
my mother and aunts would buy. If she promoted they bought. As a teen she was a champion swimmer
and was knocked out of the Olympics because of WWII.

Esther Williams movies might seen a little silly because, well, they were. But they were harmless vanilla fare with lovely water scenes, the sort of old movie you hope comes on when you're laid up in bed with a nasty cold. In the olden days I taped several of them off TCM, like The Duchess of Idaho, which I still have around here somewhere.

Also, people sometimes don't give swimmers enough credit -- they're damned fine athletes, with remarkable power, grace and physical control. Williams was one of the best.

RIP, Esther Williams. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
