two wee babies
Today I got an email at school from our animal coordinator. A local woman had a 2-3 week old kitten she got from animal control. Her work schedule didn't let her feed him as much as he needs. As luck would have it, the seniors at school signed out yesterday, leaving my schedule wide open from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon. I said I would take the kitten and bottle feed him. She brought me the little black kitten after she got off work, and I fed him his bottle dinner about an hour after he got here. He was kinda lonely in his kennel (where he needs to be for "protective custody"), but...just as Kevin and I were sitting down to dinner, a student from school appeared at my door. (This is one of the girls who rescued Cheri Amore earlier this year.) A friend of her sister's had found a tiny orange marmalade kitten on her doorstep. They had tried to care for him, but their dogs would not leave him alone. The two kittens are about the same size and age, and are snugged up together now. Kitten season has arrived.

The boys were up early this morning demanding breakfast, and they put down the formula in nothing flat. They're sleeping it off now.

As Becky said, I'm SO grateful these 2 found their way to you -- and each other! How perfect that each now has loving care AND a companion!

Re: two wee babies
The boys are doing well. They are both good eaters. I have to be careful not to overfeed the orange one, as he is a little glutton. They had a little digestive trouble getting used to the formula, but they're mostly over that and are trying to use the litterbox already. I took them outside yesterday while I was working in the garden. I put them in a big pop up dog crate with a towel to sleep on and their litterbox. They practiced walking around, used their box, and mostly napped in the shade.

Re: two wee babies
Bobby was a tiny glutton too when we first got him. He would just barge right in and try to take our food; he seemed insatiable for quite some time. We would shut him in a room if we were having people over for a meal, because we were afraid he'd just help himself to their dinner! Then that stopped - just like that - one day. Now he rarely eats people food, save for a bit of butter or cheese, or an occasional nibble of meat. He generally likes his crunchy food and crunchy treats with a teaspoon or two of canned food every couple of days. You may have Bob Jr. there!
Re: two wee babies
This little orange boy gets so excited about the bottle that he attacks it with his claws, then drinks his formula very quickly. I have to watch how much he gets, as I'm pretty sure that the "digestive trouble" he had was partly the result of an overloaded system.

Awwwww...............I bet that is so cute! They look adorable in the pic you sent me.
We had a little glutton too when we raised a litter when I was a kid. Would chug that bottle in no time, and ask for more. Had to burp him a lot.

Perhaps we should call the little glutton Bob Jr.

Re: two wee babies
I was too entusiastic about feeding the boys, and they both had some tummy trouble. I've decreased the number of feedings and the amount in the bottles, and they're doing much better, although they complain loudly about the change. I will be starting them on semi solid food this weekend.

Re: two wee babies
It would be so cool if one of my fosters could go to live with someone from the forum. Big Bob would have a Mini Me.

Re: two wee babies
The boys just finished a nice lunch of Fancy Feast kitten food mixed with formula. They ate well, but I had to rinse them off in the sink afterward.
