Round two - plus colonoscopy (ugh!)

Post by jimkr2t on Wed May 01, 2013 10:39 am

Just a few words from south jersey - I had two DIFFERENT sessions under the "knife" - Number one was the cataract operation on my right eye - last week. (left eye was done several years ago) - no deep sleep, only dreamy world, but my head was taped to the table so it couldn't move, and my right eye was given a paralyzing shot so it was "fixed". I was awake the whole time, about 15 minutes in the operating room - slit, bust, pick up pieces of old cataract, "vacuum" out, put in new plastic lens, all done.

Nice work, except I've got to put eye drops in my right eye for about 4 weeks - that's a "pain" when you're living alone!

Number two was the colonoscopy - the third time over the years that I've had this done - prep time was what was really bad - two days before, only LIGHT meal, plus a dose of citrate of magnesia - one day before, only fluids, no solids, then in early evening, start drinking Gatorade (lemon-lime flavor) dosed with Miralax, morning of procedure, continue with Miralax, than NOTHING (not even water) for 6 hours - then the procedure - actually, not bad because I was completely under - zonked! - until I was awakened by the nurse when it was all over - doc says "all was well".

What had me worried was finding bright red blood in my stools - happened 2 or 3 times a week - 3 possible causes - hemmrhoids (sp?), side effects of radiation treatments of prostate cancer 2 years ago, or possible colon cancer. Main causes according to doc - radiation treatment messed up my lower colon and hemmrhoids - no colon cancer - so, that's definitely good news.

Man, what a time I've had with doctors!! Caddy Jim Singing in the Rain

I liked how you saved the colonoscopy story for "number two"! LOL! ROTFL

Seriously though - glad things turned out so well - on both ends!

I think I should take this act on the road!

Perhaps I should have said that the gastro doc said "In the end, all things turned out OK" lol!

hehehehehehe.......another person with a twisted sense of humor I can appreciate!

Glad to hear there's no colon cancer. It's probably hemmoroids, but they're on the inside where you can't see them.

Can you put the eye drops in without a lot of trouble? I usually have to lay down, close my eyes, drop the stuff in the corner, then force myself to blink in order to do any sort of eyedrops (allergy stuff mostly).

I used to fit contact lenses for a living, so I'm used to sticking stuff in peoples' eyes - including my own. There's a technique that works for me every time, and I'll try to explain it here.

1. With clean hands, hold the bottle between the thumb and forefinger of the dominant hand.
2. Tilt head back slightly.
3. Use the ring finger of the dominant hand, pull down the lower eyelid to expose a "pocket." This is where you will aim to put the drop.
4. Holding the lid down, position the eye drop tip above the pocket.
5. Roll your eyes toward the top of your head and gently squeeze the bottle of eye drops.

By rolling your eyes up, you're not looking at the drop coming, so you won't blink at the wrong time.

What Bobcat said about eyedrops is exactly what my eye doctor said - I was a little hesitant and inaccurate in my aiming the first couple of times, but I've got it under control. I look up at the sky, hold the dropper were I can see it "vaguely", squeeze the bottle, and plop! the drop falls out directly in my eye.

Hi fif and all the others on the forum - to answer your second question first - we got a LOT of heavy rains and winds plus a tornado alert - down in Delaware, their tornado alert turned positive and they got hit by an EF-0 (minimum level) - lots of storm damage.  We've also had a few days that start of with sunshine, then quickly turn  nasty with severe storms, then back to sunshine. The U.S. Open (golf) has been in and out of the rain all week.

First question - I'm having my main bathroom redone - for about three weeks, it means workers, demolitions, hammering, in and out, etc - Tat spends the days HIDING OUT under the bed - when all is done, she may FINALLY get back to lapping the water under the bathroom faucets - but, for now - kitchen sink is what she uses.

We had our bathroom done last year.  Funny story about that too - the guys tiled the tub surround and floor, and put spacers, those tiny little X's of foam, between the tiles before they came in to grout a day or two later.  Well, there was no door on the bathroom for a while, so one day while we were at work, Bobby must have had an absolute ball, picking almost every one of those spacers out from between the tiles and batting them all over the house!  They were EVERYWHERE when we got home from work.  Silly kitty.
