TV movies don't either. I doubt anything on tv is close enough to the reality of dealing with cancer.

Re: Moving Forward with Cancer
My mother and her friends have been the biggest believers of how cancer patients are portrayed in the entertainment industry. This was quite maddening in the beginning when I was first diagnosed!

Re: Moving Forward with Cancer
As for her friends, I avoid them whenever possible. Their offers of help are appreciated, but its weird still... Along with their offers of help, they'll tell me to call anytime because they're retired and not doing much. I don't want to be the thing that keeps them occupied! Yesterday, I actually had a decent visit with my mother. She came over with my sister Gretchen to drop something off that I left at Gretchen's place. The only complaint she made was not wanting Beans to sit on her lap because of her claws. This visit was actually pleasant. Usually, when I see my mother, I'm constantly defending myself which is horribly stressful.
This behavioral change of hers might be due to the latest spread of my Cancer. The latest scan revealed a spot on my left breast which Dr. K couldn't feel upon examination. I still feel perfectly normal and wouldn't even known about the latest spot if not for the scan! An evaluation on what to do next will be made at my next appointment with Dr. K in six weeks.

OhMy....I hope they can get rid of that spot as easily as the ones in your head were.
I bet you're right too: mom's nicer because she's finally realizing this condition is serious and she might lose you.
I strongly hope you are around for many good years to come (without pain).

Re: Moving Forward with Cancer
I thought I'd drop in today to say I'm feeling fine despite the questionable spots or tumors that show up every six months. Most of the time I don't talk about having Cancer just because it bores me so! Crazy, huh?

Feeling good is very important for your outlook, and I think one's outlook is crucial to a proper recovery.

Re: Moving Forward with Cancer
And still, I am. Yesterday, Dr. K. confirmed that the spot found in the PETscan did turn out to be a tumor. Since it is quite small, he hopes to keep it under control with the current chemo I'm receiving. Otherwise, I feel 100%!

Maybe the chemo will shrink it into non-existence? Still, it's good you feel 100% no matter what.

Re: Moving Forward with Cancer
Everything is fine still, although my last visit to the hospital was for brain surgery. Considering that particular part of the noggin controls ALL the muscles, I was quite surprised to be discharged in four days directly from the Neuro-ICU! The transporter who was taking me to my mother's car thought he was being pranked!

Welcome back. I can imagine. Still that was a good kind of prank.

Re: Moving Forward with Cancer
Yes, indeed!
In a conversation he had with a co-worker (transporting another patient on the elevator, in a bed) said he had to call up to the Neuro-ICU, to verify the transport order as it was his first discharge from an ICU

Well if anyone could pull something like that off it would be you. Keep it up.

I agree, if anybody could pull that off it would be you! Now those guys can't say they've never transported someone home directly from ICU. Only 4 days after surgery.....fantastically fast recovery IMHO. Bet the doc was amazed too.
