Most horses prefer being outside. They are, after all, animals born to run on the plains. But, I think Falkina's aversion to her house is because she can't see other horses when she's in there. That will change when she's home. She'll be right next door to Casper and across the aisle from Envoy. Smile

Today, she told me she likes bread and bananas (not at the same time). I had a banana, and asked for a bite. She ate it all and asked for more. Then, I had some bread crusts left over from lunch, and I decided to see if she liked those. Yup. She does. Envoy said no thanks to both treats. He'll stick with oranges, apples, and carrots. Smile

Same here.....never heard of a horse who liked bananas. Then again, who'd have thought Bij would actually eat a piece of my orange-ginger chicken.

The trainer is going to start riding Envoy tomorrow. He needs some tuning up, and she needs a sound horse. Her youngster needs someone (younger) to start him, and her old horse is only sound for walks. So, Envoy is at the right time and place. It will help all of us. Smile This means that Falkina and I can work on maybe getting ready for a show this summer. (GULP!) I see lots of banana treats in her future.

Sounds like a win-win all around. Envoy gets some extra time with the trainer and you get some with Falkina. Great for bonding with her too. Or should I say she bonding with you?

We're making tentative plans to go to a show together. The trainer thinks Kina is spectacular, and Envoy is doing well even so early. We might try something small just to get feet wet. I haven't shown in years, and the last time I went, I had a miserable time. I hope a horse with lots of show experience can make it fun for me. (show record)

I don't know anything about scoring.....are her scores good? I think a horse with show experience will at least make it easier for you.

Her scores are very good, and quite consistent. The score shown is out of a possible 100 points. Smile She's a star. The + after her name means she has national recognition in the Arabian Horse Association.

DAMN!! Becky, you are well mounted very well mounted indeed. Don't worry you are
worthy of her. Her owners would have never let you have her otherwise.

I wonder if little Kina will ever stop shedding. Her neck and rear are nice and shiny. Her belly and back are still fluffy. Smile I'll need to take more pictures once she gets herself all shined up for summer.

Poor little girl has a sore right in her "armpit." It rubs on the girth. I can't tell if it's a bug bite that opened up or if the girth chafes her. I think I'll get a different kind of girth and see if it's better. But, for now, she gets a couple days off to let that heal up.

Good suggestion, but wouldn't that be a tad too hot to wear in the summer?

It might work. I am going to try a different shaped girth once the thing heals up. If that one seems to be causing any trouble, fleece it is! She is very happy and dirty today. We finally had a sunny day, and she rolled in the mud to keep the bugs away. Good girl. Smile

Kina had the day off, and seemed to enjoy it. The weather was warm, and she still has some shedding to do. I brushed her and fussed over her. She was happy for that (and the cookies she got). Smile

Her sores are better, and a different shaped girth seems to be the trick. Guess I'll have to order a new one since I'm borrowing this one. She seemed very happy to work today. It's cool. Tomorrow is supposed to be much warmer, and she'll probably be hot. She is shedding well, but she still has a way to go around her middle. (Shiny front and rear, fuzzy middle!)

Glad to hear the sores are healing and you seem to have found the cause, to prevent them from coming back.

Kina had a farrier visit today. Her poor left front foot is messed up. She seems to have had an injury (long ago) that sheered off some of her hoof. Everything grew back fine, but she has something that looks like a quarter crack, but is actually hoof growing on top of hoof. That isn't a problem, but she does need to keep her front shoes on. The farrier says that whoever did her feet before used the wrong size shoes, and so her toes were too long. Her feet look great now, and she seems happy to be all trimmed up. Smile
