Don Diego update

Post by gbste on Thu Dec 27, 2012 2:57 pm

I got a very nice email update on my former foster kitty, Don Diego. His name is Higgins now, and he's obviously living the good life. I couldn't find the original thread, so I started a new one.

I remember him......interesting name they gave him. Higgins....I wonder where they got that from. Glad to hear he's doing well. Did they happen to send a pic of him with that update now that he's older? I'm curious to see how he looks all grown up.

What a handsome boy. I think the original name fits him better.
I did read something a while ago. It was article about why people
renamed the pets they adopted from shelter/rescues. There were a
variety of reasons but the main one was that they wanted to disassociate the pet
from what they perceive of an unhappy past.

He looks like he loves his home. Job well done, everyone!

I renamed Casper because it was easier to say than "Xavier" and they sound similar. Smile

Some people rename, others don't. It doesn't seem to matter how good the original name is, either. We had 2 beagle mix pups that were named Jelly and Bean. Bean's family kept that name. The names were kinda cute together, but Bean on its own? Oh well, they love the pup. The folks who adopted my foster kitties JayJay and Mikey renamed them Walter and Gordon after a friend of theirs. A little eerie, as my pup I adopted this year is called Walt, and a long time foster pup we had was called Gordie. As long as the furries have good homes, I don't really care what they are named.

Agreed, Sue! Sometimes a new pet will eventually tell you her name, sometimes we give a name out of love and remembrance, sometimes the name they came with just suits them. My experience with furbabes is that they don't care what you call them, as long as you don't call them late for dinner! tongue (sorry, old joke, but admit it, mostly true!)

Thank you so much for sharing the update with us! SO glad Professor Higgins is so happy in his forever home!!! I love you cat I love you
