OhMy, she sure has grown! She's starting to look like a cat instead of a kitten now.....and she's still adorable.

She's still small, but she is growing up. Her adult teeth are all coming in. She's being spayed today, so hold a good thought for her. I'll pick her up after school, and I'll be home tomorrow to help her recover if needed. Poor little girl did not understand why she couldn't have her breakfast. When she's ready to eat, I have some Fancy Feast for her.

Seri is not doing well. Her incision is oozing fluid. The doc says to "keep an eye on her" and they'll recheck in the morning. She's snuggled on a waterproof pad over a hot water bottle, and I'm checking on her frequently. The suture looks ok, but I hope this clears up quickly.

OhNo.......poor little baby! I hope it's just lymph seepage (which isn't much to worry about) and clears up soon. How is Seri doing otherwise? Is she alert, eating, demanding attention, etc?

The seepage was a little bloody where the stitches are, but it appears that it was mostly lymph. No seepage this morning on her tummy or on the pad she slept on all night. She's up and at 'em today. She wants to be held, ate a good breakfast, etc. There appears to be some fluid under the skin in her lower abdomen, but that swelling is much less than last night as well. The swelling is not dark colored, so again, it's probably lymph fluid and not blood. I wish we had a good small animal vet here.

As long as the incision itself isn't puffy, red, and seeping pus she should be okay. The vet probably just nicked a lymph node cutting in for her surgery. It takes a while for those to seal themselves off once they're opened up. The lymph itself under the skin should reabsorb soon. If that swelling gets bigger though it'll need to be seen by the vet and at least drained to relieve the pressure.
Glad to hear Seri is her usual self otherwise.

I had a horrible sunburn years ago on my shoulders, and all the skin peeled off down to raw meat. OUCH! It seeped lymph/blood for days, but eventually that stopped, it scabbed over finally, and healed without any scars.

I'm glad to hear that everything is ok. It really sounds like your town has an opening for a small animal vet. It's just such a huge deal to start a practice. Sigh...

The student loans for vets are getting to be on par with doctors. Too bad the vet
schools can't do what medical schools due in order to get forgiveness on part of their
medical school loans young doctors have to go where they are needed for several years.
Since your town has already established vets too bad some young vet just starting out couldn't
apprentice there.

I've read some towns that need a certain kind of doc will sponsor a student with mostly paid tuition IF they agree to practice in that town for at least 5-10 years. If there are enough folks in the town that need a small animal vet the town hall might arrange for a couple businesses to pony up some funds for that kind of program. Or offer a nice incentive to an about to graduate vet school class for one of them to come and set up practice in your town.

How is Seri now? Bouncing off the walls yet? Up to kitten shenanigans as usual?

Seri is back to her old self. I'm restricting her to the bathroom to keep her from jumping around too much. I'd like her to keep healing.

Good idea....and good luck with that too. It might be easier said than done in Seri's case if she's as active as ever.

Our dog Noelle was so hyper after her big girl surgery my mom had to literally lay on the floor in front of the doorway to keep her in the room AND keep her calm enough not to rip her stitches. It was a loooooong two weeks.

How I wish it were mine.........but I'm at #30 on the waiting list. It takes about 6 months for the first 5 on the list to get into the place so you do the math. Even if half of them drop dead from old age or find other housing it will take too long. No way could Seri wait that long for me, it wouldn't be fair to her.

I am glad to hear she's healing well and back to her ol' lovable fiesty self. In some ways personalitywise she reminds me of my past Miss Kitty.

Seri will go to the Petfair on Saturday. If she is not adopted, Happy Cats Haven has agreed to take her. I don't know, I may have to take one of the volunteer's places on Saturday. I would like to see her get her home, or else drop her off at Happy Cats myself. She will be very hard to give up.

After all you've been through with her I can understand why it'll be hard to give her up. I doubt I'd be able to if I were in your place. I'd be the 'successful failure'.
I hope whoever gets her (lucky human!) will send updates and pics to us. I'd love to hear how she's doing, what cute mischief she does, and see how she looks all grown up.

Re: Seraphina comes in from the cold

Yesterday Seri developed a lump on her belly above her sutures. Today she went to have her stitches out. The incision looks fine, but the lump is bigger. It's in the spot where I've seen puppies have umbilical hernias. The vet was not there today, but the tech said it might be adhesions. I don't know, though. It is a big lump for adhesions, and it's near the suture site, but above it. I emailed our animal coordinator and told her that I thought Seri should stay home from this fair, and that's been ok'd. I contacted Happy Cats, and they can take her next week. I feel better safe than sorry, so we'll let the vet look at her tomorrow tomorrow or Monday, and then we'll drive her up to Happy Cats next week. We'll make the sacrifice and keep her for another week. Wink

The lump looks a little better, but the scar doesn't look too great this morning. Kevin will take her to the vet today and see what he says about it.
