Shadow and Phantom are now going into the garden with the dogs. Wandering around and doing what they have to do. I leave them to it and they wander into the kitchen when they're ready.
Frankly they're more interested in their food at the moment.

Sounds like the settling in is going very well! cat cat But I must ask, as a long time kitty Mama, do the cats at least get their own food in a safe place, out of reach of thieving Chi's? pale

The kitties here say that it is very important to have your own space. Their cousin doggies (one chi and one old Jack Russell/beagle) are coming to visit, and the kitties are insisting on having their food protected. Laughing

Yes, the little darlings have their own dining room (the study) where their dinner is served in a dainty bowl (purchased, I might add, from the local Cat Charity shop. Very Happy cat cat cat Very Happy ).
The bowl is placed on a low table whereof they may sup.
The door to the study is pushed to, but not closed completely. It has a pronounced creak when it opens so when they are done they push it partly open (cat wide) and emerge having dined to their hearts content.
We then hear the creak as the greedy Labradors Shocked pig pig Shocked push it open further and scavenge what is left in the bowl. Bless them the poor Chi's can't reach the table top but it is Lab height. Rolling Eyes LOL

A new development in the fiendish saga.
I let Shadow and Phantom out into the garden Saturday morning 5:30 am, along with the six dogs. Six dogs and Shadow came back in after about 10 minutes, I went to look for Phantom and saw her vanishing over the back gate. I called her, but she ran around the front of the house and vanished from sight.
Oh, well, I thought, that's it, we're down to one cat cat . It was at that moment that Phantom shot past me, went up the fence next to the gate, shimmied along and followed his sister.
Oh, well, I thought, that's it, we're down to no cats Crying or Very sad .
I had to give Angel (the Chi) her heart tablet and diuretic tablet so shut the door to the kitchen and did that. I made some breakfast and just before I sat down to eat it I opened the door to the garden again, just in time to hear a thump and scrabbling of claws on the back gate. When I opened it Shadow hurried into the garden and up the steps into the kitchen.
Still no sign of Phantom though.
Oh, well, I thought, that's it, we're up one cat cat .
Shadow came in and joined the dogs in helping me to eat my toast (bless them) and when I took my plate to the kitchen I opened the door again and switched on the outside lights. At this point an hour had passed.
Madam Phantom was walking up to the door. She trotted into the house walked to the study and jumped on the table. Then mewed at me to put her breakfast out.
Cheeky young cat got a snuggle first though.
Oh, well, I thought, that's it, we're back up to two cats cat cat and at least they know their way back to the house.
Christmas is going to be hell. rendeer

Did your "cat containment system" fail, Bob? Or did they find a way around it? Even at 17 years old, my Blue could scale the 6' wooden fence with very little effort, so I know all about escape artist cats.

Did I ever mention that we had that 6' fence put up (at a hefty cost too, I might add) when we bought the house, and the VERY 1ST DAY, Blue went over it, and Grommit shimmied under it!!! Suspect We were able to troubleshoot the gaps at the bottom, but never did contain the kitties.

The containment system is working well around the perimeter but there is an area over the back gate which, while the same height as the fence isn't as secure and that was where they got out.
But. As long as they know their way home I'll relax.

Funnily enough Sue, I am drinking more than usual. Very Happy

Welcome to Christmas at the animal house.

Phantom waiting for Santa (on top of her scratching post). The yellow and green mice at the bottom were part of her present. The Cyberman top right is holding a unicorn tree ornament. Nasty Cyberman.

Shadow went to sleep in the study.

then decided to take my chair in the reading area.

The dinosaur collection (so far) The T Rex is just off to the right but wanted none of the limelight.

Pol deciding which DVD to watch from the DVD wall.

Phantom annoyed at not catching Santa as he came down the chimney gave me her laser stare.

Cats aren't weird, they just like to go up up up to the highest vantage point. And if they find something warm to sit on, so much the better! Good thing your shelves are so stuffed or P would be into them in a heartbeat. Your mantle is next. Watch out, dinos!

Speaking of stuffed, Pol and Pippa look way to happy snoozing to care what they watch! Please give them a kiss each from their Auntie. I love you I love you

Aaaarrrggghh. I love them to bits, but as a (mainly) dog person I have to wonder how people cope with cats.
They're a law unto themselves. Twisted Evil
Why do they always have to be at the highest spot in the room? Rolling Eyes
Why do they insist on walking across the table and checking out your meal? Shocked
And why oh why do we have a mad half hour when they go absolutely ape and run at each other, play fight and then play leap frog around the room? affraid
They are weird
