How old is Sabi? I can't remember, from the photos I've seen he looks like he's
in his teens.

Sabi certainly is one of a kind from all the tales we've heard over the years of his antics. How do you think Casper will take his leaving when it comes? (hoping it isn't for a few years yet)

Today's progress was finding another abscess opening on his "good" foot's toe. It had drained and was bleeding a little. There was still some smell, so I put some iodine solution in the hole and bandaged. The vet will be here Monday, and I hope he has resolved the drainage issue by then. She has taught me well how to treat an abscess, so this isn't an emergency. Poor guy.

I think he really bruised his foot and those bruises abscessed. Still hoping that the shoes help a lot.

Oh! I forgot to tell you, Sue. Sabi is 25. He'll be 26 in February. He looks great for his age -- above the fetlocks!

No wonder he was so sore walking! Poor guy.....now that the new abscess has opened maybe he'll finally truly be on the path of healing? Hope the new shoes help too. Please let us know.

((((((((((((((((STRONG HEALING VIBES)))))))))))))))))) ps....he looks great for nearly 26 years old!

He's slightly better this morning. He wanted out and walked (slowly and pointing his toe) to his hay with no hesitation.

He doesn't look as good as the pictures I've posted. He's thin. The pain has kept him from using his food the right way. He's eating, but not as much as he used to. I don't want to post pictures because he doesn't look healthy right now. I'm hoping that if we can get the pain under control, we can get some weight back. That shouldn't be too hard if things get under control. Neutral

But, up until this latest episode, he looked fantastic for a senior horse.

I'm finding it hard to post on this thread, but I'm reading every word and praying really hard. Please tell us what the vet thinks tomorrow.

This is the end of Sabi's saga. He will be with us until Sunday. His feet are basically rotting from the inside. He is in pain. We will spend the week loving on him and stuffing him full of his favorite things. I think he is ready, and will be relieved. I need to get myself ready.

The vet will come to do the act, and the farrier is going to bury him. Afterwards, we will be having an Irish wake for the little Roo man. Sad

Oh Becky, I am crying as I type this........my heart is breaking right alongside yours. I am so sorry. Please give Sabi a lot of hugs, carrots, and peppermints from me as my loving goodbye. (((((((((((HUGS FOR YOU)))))))))))

Please give Casper and Envoy some extra loving from me too, they'll be grieving the loss of their friend too.

He is being such a trooper. Every day, he looks a little thinner and a little more tired. This is the right decision. I'm stuffing him full of carrots, apples, cookies, whatever he wants. I'm thinking of seeing if he'd like a PB&J as a remembrance of our old trail ride days. He used to love PB&J (heavy on the J).

Envoy and Casper are being very attentive. When Sabi calls, they come running. It's pretty cute.

Sabi is surrounded by all good things -- devoted friends, good food, beloved humans. He's home, in the heart of his family.

He's all bundled up for the cold weather. Yesterday was 75 degrees. Today, we had showers, and now it's cold. I put blankets on everyone, and they should be fine hanging out in the pasture tomorrow. More carrots for little Sabi, who is loving every moment of the extra treats. Smile

As well he should! I love you We had a dip in temps today, too, but it's supposed to get milder; I hope it's the same for you. Well, for Sabi.

We've upped all of Sabi's meds for his last days. It seems to be helping. He's a bit more comfortable today. So, we're going to keep it up. He can be as comfy as possible and less worn out while we stuff him full of treats. Today, he got all of my holiday peppermint candies. I wonder what I'm going to do next Christmas. I hate those things, and he's always been the one to save me from them. Envoy and Casper aren't thrilled with them either.

By all means, make him comfortable by any means! I'm so glad he's feeling okay. I love you

Next year you'll begin different traditions, with a bit of peppermint saved over for for Sabi.
