I talked to the farrier today. We're going to try glue-on shoes for the old man. The farrier thinks that it will help the comfort level. I'll need to have the vet sedate him so he can stand extra still while the glue sets. Sounds expensive, but if it works, it will be worth it. Smile Yea Roo man!

If it works for him then the price is worth it IMHO.

If the vet signs off on the sedation, I'm all for the try. When will this happen?

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is shoe day. The vet will be fine with sedating I think. She comes for fall immunizations tomorrow, so I'll discuss it with her.

The vet says he looks much better. Still not back to where he was, but she's pretty sure his problem was an abscess and not grass founder. She gave fall shots and said she would come back on Wednesday to sedate for shoes. Here's hoping!

We changed pastures today. There's no hope for grass right now, but we're trying not to tear up the ground. After the holidays, we'll be turning out in the "sacrifice" pasture. That one seems to recover no matter what. So, Sabi was so excited that he wouldn't let me put on his boot. He wanted to rush right out. I let him go barefoot. We won't be doing that again. He wasn't bad, but he was definitely more sore than he is when he wears his boot. I'll put it on tomorrow while he eats breakfast.

Envoy came home today, and Sabi is very glad to see him. Even though he was sore, he had to go to Envoy's stall to say hi. Smile

He is a bit more sore today. I think it might be the weird weather. It isn't cold, but the wind is blowing like crazy and it's cloudy. I can feel the chill in the air. I put sheets on the boys, and, of course, Sabi got one of his belly straps undone. But, he is sore, so tomorrow we'll go back to 2 bute pills. I hope it's just for the chilly weather time. He was improving so well. I suppose setbacks aren't unusual, but they are still disappointing.

I guess it's just a matter of feeling your way along with him, day at a time. 2 butes is probably a good idea for now.

Knowing Sabi, I'm not one bit surprised he tried to take off his sheet. The wind we had today was insistent but hardly icy cold. I bundled up against it based on weather reports, but found it rather refreshing instead. Of course, Sabi might do that anyway. tongue I know he's glad to have Envoy back in the fold. I love you

Oh yes, it's very comforting to have your buddies around when you don't feel so hot. Hoping the foot is better soon, and this setback is only because of the weather.

Do the boys get anything good for Thanksgiving? Treats of some kind? I know the kitties will 'help' you fix dinner. Do any of them keep an eye on the oven so the turkey doesn't escape?

The boys will be getting apples and carrots in a nice, warm bran mash. I add a little bran and alfalfa pellets to their food and dampen with warm water. They slurp it up. The apples and carrots are a hit no matter what.

Sabi is doing better. The weather is cooler, but not windy and wet. Maybe his arthritis was just acting up. Piled on top of his other issues, that couldn't help at all. The farrier called yesterday and said the glue hasn't arrived for the shoe yet. He will come next week to do the shoe. Poor Sabi gets to be barefoot for Thanksgiving. I don't think he cares though. As long as he gets his treats, the holiday will be complete.

Sounds like a good horsie feast! I hope they are gents and wait patiently for their servings of the goodies.

Sabi's soreness could be arthritis.....my mom's and her neighbors certaintly are kicking up with the changeable weather.

Sorry there's to be a delay on the shoe, but things happen when they do. At least the weather will cooperate for a few days -- dry, sunny and warm here; I trust it's the same for you and the boys. sunny

Especially if the carrots have the tops on them. I thought of da Boyz when I was buying
carrots. I try to buy carrots with the tops, you can use the tops in stocks and broth. Also when
I stuff the Bird with veggies I'll use the carrots with the tops in the cavity.

We got some last-of-season carrots with tops from the farmer. I bought a couple bunches from the store too. They will have lots of yummies. Smile

Sabi was eager to go out today. He popped his boot on and went out to stand in the sun/wind. It isn't cold, but the wind has a little bite. It's supposed to go down to freezing tonight. Looks like blankets for the boys. Sabi will be grumpy about that. He's a nudist at heart. Laughing

Happy day to everyone, furry and not-so.

Re: Sabi's saga continued

Another good day for Sabi. He seems to like sleeping in while his mom sleeps off the large turkey dinner. He went right out and chased Envoy out of his hay net. He was the first to take a break from hay to nibble on the dead grass. (What the heck? Dead grass... Hay... It's all the same thing, right?) He is absolutely filthy from sleeping on the ground during the day and, apparently, rolling in his poo at night. I'll have to take a brush to him tonight. It will definitely be blanket weather no matter what Mr. Natural says. Cool
