Lovely. Letting him feel very safe, but experience the big world a bit, too.

Re: Lennox the Safeway kitten

Today I was at the home of another volunteer to take some pictures of some puppies for Petfinder. I told her about Lennox, and that we were going to need to trap at least 2 more flamepoints, plus at least one orange tabby. She said that if I caught the flamepoints, she wanted them. Kevin and I went out a little after 6:00. Turns out we saw 3 more flamepoints, an orange tabby, and a dilute tortie (all kittens) plus 2 adult cats that kinda look like they belong to someone. We set up some traps, and lo and behold, we caught 2 of the flame points! They already have their new home! I'll go back in a day or two and vaccinate them; their new ma will get them fixed. They both allowed me to pet them once we got them into crates. They didn't love it, but they didn't try to remove my hand, either.

Lennox is doing pretty well. I had him on the couch with me last night, and my cat Ace, who was my mom's cat originally, hissed at him and scared him pretty bad. Today he's been cautious, but I got him to come out of his crate a few times and play with the fwiffer toy that all the kittens like. He's tentative with the toy, and he runs back into his crate if he hears (or thinks he hears) anything much, but he's getting there.

Wonderful news. The 2 flamepoints can't get much luckier, can they? Smile

Little Lennox is such a sweetie. It sounds like he'll get braver as he gets bigger. He's just feeling out his new digs. We all know that figuring out the social order is always a challenge for kittens (and people too).

Lennox came off the street, so he has learned to stay away from the big boys. Ace was an only cat when my mom had him, so he does not always play well with others. He gets along ok with the orange kitties, and tolerates Tony most days. He hisses at them too, but they're too laid back to freak out about it.

I have another volunteer who will take the other 3 kittens and work on getting them tame. We're hoping for spots at Look What the Cat Brought In for these guys, or for some of the other kittens, as we're all pretty overwhelmed here.

Wonderful news for the flamepoints! What about Lennox? Would she take him, too?

I don't know if she's up for more kitties now. She already has one kitten, the 2 new ones, and several dogs. Everyone isn't as nuts as I am about adding new poodies.

You're right, we shouldn't push; just be grateful for what she's willing to do. It's a lot!

When we got Lennox to go into the carrier, he had been living by himself. We saw him run up to the orange tabby--all head butts and body rubs--and the tabby kinda blew him off. I think the others must have rejected him because he was weaker than they were. I don't know as his sibs would be glad to see him.

Lennox had the run of the bathroom most of the day today. Kevin saw him disappearing into his carrier a couple of times, so he at least had the chance to snoop around and stretch out a little. He had lap time w/ Kevin as well.

I wouldn't be surprised, in the wild the weak and the sick don't survive. Sad

Well, if Kevin went to *ahem* use the facilities and saw Lennox retreating, that means L was out and about, right? Great! And since they've now had some lap time, maybe they can do a little bathroom bonding, too. alien

Lennox is spending more and more time out of the carrier. He's always able to dash back in there if he sees or hears something scary.

I have a feeling he'll do that mad dash less and less as the days go by and he gets more comfy in his new digs. He looks much much better!

Does he have something funny that he thinks is scary? When Gateway first came inside, the recliner footrest going up made him SCOOT to his safe spot. The funny part of it is that he loves to sleep on it like a hammock now. Laughing

It doesn't seem like anything special scares him. He just feels it's better safe than sorry.

Safe than sorry was a lesson he learned very quickly living outside.......he may never quite get over that (I hope he does though) but he will get more comfortable as time goes by.
