Nice! I do love The Police. I have my own "best of" cd burned from various (borrowed) albums. Same with Steely Dan and the Doobie Bros. Ah, we made beautiful music back in the olden days, didn't we?

Never thought I would say this, but a friend of mine made a copy of her 'Best of George Michael' CD for me. I've never been a fan, but I'm listening to it (I'll give anything a try) and have to admit that some of the stuff ain't bad.

I recognise music but rarely names. What did George Michael do that I might have heard?

Apart from being caught in a public toilet doing strange things with another 'gentleman' (which you might have heard about), there are songs titled 'Freedom 90', 'Careless Whisper' and 'Faith'. He was also part of the Wham duo.

he also did a christmas song i hear a million times during the holidays but i can't remember the name of....it was either during or just after Wham.
"last christmas i gave you my heart, but the very next day, you gave it away..." maybe its called "last christmas'?
(But the very best....Wake me Up Before you Go Go...man i remember dancing around the living room to that so many times when i was left home alone!).

i've been thinking to get a little cheapo MP3 player and loading up some Bowie. I've been hearing bits of some of his songs this past month and i'm thinking i need to get some where i can listen to it. (somewhere i have a best of tape someone made for me..if it didn't get thrown out when i left TX).

Yes, Last Christmas was one of his.

Ah Bowie. I think I have to start listening to my Diamond Dogs and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars CDs again.

I've been going through all my Christmas albums the past few days.
One song I love but don't have is the David Bowie/Bing Crosby rendition of Little Drummer Boy. Someone promised me a copy last year but never sent it.

Right now I'm listening to the Toy Symphony, I'm not sure if it's Hyden's or Poppa Mozart's. The classical station
has out done itself this year with some of it's programing.

Thanks for posting that. I think the reason it was stuck in your head
is CBS is using the opening as part of their holiday promotions.

The classical station outdid itself for Valentines Day. The played music not only from the
romantic period to music from romantic movies.

I put a CD in the player to listen to some celtic music on Saturday and the darn thing wouldn't work. It was going wonky and wouldnt even release the CD. I tried and got the CD out yesterday but it still wouldn;ty play. I;ve got to check the connections as the CD player is hooked up to my stereo system, see if that's the pproblem.
I have another CD stereo system I can use, but if the problem is with the stero I lose my record player. (even if it is almost 40 years old. LOL.

The classical station is playing the full version of the Messiah. I wish they had run Bach's
St. Matthews Passion still it's great music for a rainy Easter Sunday afternoon.

well those of you who are my fb friends are probably sick of these guys...but i've been listening a lot to a band i went to see about two weeks ago. they're a tribute band to various 60s groups (beatles, kinks, and mostly Monkees;) )but they also do their own music individually, i can't find a link to a page with some of the solo stuff...but i've been listening to the Blue Meanies (the NY/NJ ones there are blue meanies groups all over the place i heard).
IF you're able to get to FB please check out their page and click 'like'....its my bd wish to get them up to 300likes by the 27th.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Blue-Meanies/226938220688464
and if you look close the guy on the far right might look a little familar;)

My upstairs neighbor burned me a copy of the sound track to O Brother where are't thou. I couldn't
stand the movie but the sound track is just awesome. Later I caught the Russian Easter Orhodox Overture
on the classical station.

Every year the classical station here has a top forty count down over labor day. Last year they
expanded it to the top ninety in honor of their 90th anniversary. Well this year they went whole
hog and are having the top 101. The started on Monday the 27th. Y'all the thing has been all over
the place. Along with your usual standards there are movie soundtracks, jazz, etc. It's great. They
just played John Williams the Imperial March from the Empire Strikes Back, before that it was the Nutcracker suite.
When they run the countdown they usually play the full piece not just movements etc.

that sounds great! makes me want to get out my old SW albums and play them.
do you know the words to Tne Imperial March?
"Darth Vader's mother wears army boots
she always wears them with sequined suits
Darth Vader can't stand his mother
wearing army boots
that's why he ran away from home"

that's called a filk song (from a typo for folk song). my friend and I made that up back in 1977. it got quite popular in old SW crowds at conventions. people kept adding more verses
