....Listening to?

Post by Sue Short on Mon Jul 05, 2010 5:05 pm

Someone by the name Pink Sock Girl started this in the
original forum. So I'm continuing it through various venues.

The classical station, they are featuring music of various
American composers. Heavy on Copeland, Gershwin
Sousa, lots of show tunes and movie music,

i don't get many radio stations down here...just the one public station from NYC and maybe the oldies station from the next town over (which only operates from sun up to sun down). I rarely listen except to Prairie Home Companion. its nice to know somebody else listens to public radio though:)

not listening now but last night i was watched a special of Pete Seeger in Australia 1963 and then a bit later on another pbs station there was a one man stage play about Harry Bridges who fought to create a union ...can't remember what it was called...LI something....there was music along with it and i kept thinking i heard Pete Seeger and it was. he wrote a song about Harry and at the end he (pete) discussed it and Arlo Gunthrie played it.

Well it;s been a while since I've visited this topic.
Listening to the classical station, they just finished
playing Ashoken Farewell. This was used extensively
in the Ken Burns series the Civil War.

they started playing 'christmas music' at the store either on halloween or the day after. the thing is.....there's very little of it mixed in with miley and the glee folks and its turned down so low you have to strain to hear it at all. i miss hearing suzy snowflake,i'm gettin nothin for christmas and all the other fun music we had before everything had to be so politcally correct! (I remember working at places where the music was so good and spirits were so high at the holidays i'd actually start singing in the store!)

if you like jazz there's a really great jazz pianist who has put his latest cd as a free download on his site....i had it playihng in the background here until i starting going back and forth between pages. i really like this guy...not just because he likes animals nor just because he's the pianist for P&T...he's just really good! here's the site:
http://www.jonesjazz.com/
thought you might like him sue...don't know who else in here might like jazz but if youi do check him out...you don't have to download it to hear it (like i said, it was playing as background music on here for a while).

(I can't say much, i bought tea cups and saucers from the thrift shop to fill for christmas and part of what i sent one of my secret halloween people were little things i got at the thrift shop! but man...this is a nice thrift shop....some of the rich folks in this town bring things there ESP at this time of year cuz they want to get every penny they can for a tax deduction!)

I LOVE jazz! I started to download Mike's album, but it was going to take 30+ minutes so I'll save it to do later. Danged sweet of him to make it available; what I heard on his site was just the kind of thing I like. Thanks for the tip, Jeane!

Jeane, there is a Half Price books not to far from me.
I would say about 15 or 20 minutes. I will buy books from
them but not used CD's or DVD's their quality control on those
items are pretty sloppy.
