I didn't know that. Too bad you don't know an electrical engineer to design
one.

Yeah, you both could go in together on the patent when you get the design worked out. Think of the money you'd make............. Any way to set one of those up with a light activated toggle on/off switch, then it would switch to battery power at night and solar by day?

Well that's kind of what it does now. The sun charges the battery, which is always running the line. The battery is capable of storing energy, so at night, the fence runs on pure battery. When the sun comes back out, the battery goes back to full charge. I don't know that the design can be improved really. It's reliable. The only improvement I can think of is a replaceable battery rather than having to replace the charging cells too. But, maybe those wear out. I don't know.

Casper ate beans for breakfast I think. He had (ummm) a really "entertaining" case musical fruit reactions. He gave a concert on his way into the barn. Horses are so uninhibited! Laughing

There's an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer let a horse have a whole can of something "beany" and fun ensued.

I thought a toggle switch to change it from the solar battery to a bigger regular one like a car battery.....save on the solar battery somehow.

Well, gray horses really do get dirtier than other horses. Yesterday was so hot that all the boys got a shower on their way inside for supper. Envoy was sweaty, but not too dirty. Sabi, because he's smaller, was not as sweaty and not too dirty. Casper was really sweaty and REALLY dirty. I ended up hosing him down for about 15 minutes. The water ran brown for a while. Yuck! He looked a lot better when it was all over. Today, we had afternoon and evening thunder storms, so the boys got a shower from Mother Nature.

I wonder if maybe he purposely gets extra dirty so he can get a custom shower from mom?

Really, I think he might not be any dirtier than the others. His color makes it really EASY to see the dirt. Looks like more baths this afternoon. It's hot and everyone is sweaty. They end up with dried sweat on their hair, and that can't be comfortable.

I'll bet those baths feel good in this weather no matter how dirty they are. Who wants to have supper and go to bed all grimy and sticky?

Nobody that who! I know when I sweat all over my hair is icky too and I just don't feel myself until after a shower. Why should the ponies be any different than us in that respect?

They do look relieved to get washed off. I don't use shampoo often because it strips the important oils out of their hair and their skin can get itchy. Today, Casper didn't need a shower. It was supposed to be really hot, but it was actually pretty pleasant. No one was really sweaty.

Casper was REALLY cute at dinner time. He's never first in line, but when I called everyone to the gate, he came first. He nuzzled on me! Yippee!!

This morning he had an attack of the crazies. I am at home because our upstairs AC died and the repair guys couldn't quite finish yesterday. Thank goodness today's weather is WONDERFUL. Well... the weather is so wonderful that Casper decided he wanted to RUN from the barn to the pasture. It was a discipline walk with a couple steps forward and stop. More steps forward and stop. He was pretty good, and as soon as the halter came off, he and Envoy went FLYING all over the place. The cool temps, lack of bugs, and breeze have them excited. Laughing Too bad it's going to be really hot for the weekend. I could take this weather all summer long.

How wonderful Casper gave you a loving nuzzle! Smitten Just picturing it in my head made my day.
Brace yourselves for being in the blast furnace again.....there's no way to avoid it. Only hope it doesn't last too long. Time for the frozen ice bottles in the water tank and buckets again. I read somewhere if you hang a few of those in front of a fan it's kinda like having AC going. Just an idea for a cooler fan breeze when it's needed.

So, after Casper's fruitcake meltdown, he went out with Sabi, and calmed himself. Then, it was RIDE CASPER DAY. Very Happy He did great. He doesn't have very good balance right now. His front and back end don't really feel connected. But, he walked calmly all over the arena. He even trotted just a little bit. We didn't go around for long. He isn't in any kind of shape to carry a rider for long. But, I'm going to try to ride him for about 20 minute 3 times a week. That should help his muscles get stronger. It should also help his brain to handle things like going places so he doesn't have fruitcake meltdowns.

Exactly! He was crying/snorting/kicking/pawing in the stall while Sabi got his chiropractic treatment right in the aisle in front of him. I have no clue why he did that. He was surrounded by friendly horses and people, but he just didn't care. The vet had to give him some sedative because he was so bad. It was eye-opening. The weirdest thing is that when I was riding him, he didn't care that he was kind of by himself. Sabi was in the arena, but he didn't pay any attention to his buddy. He just did his job. Question

Oh, Casper. Sad I have zero doubt that something about the visit stirred up bad memories, and he was frantic that his best friend not be hurt. After, with Sabi in the ring (clearly okay) and a little calm-juice in his system, he was able to relax and do his best for you. Casper's done so well and adjusted so nicely that it's easy to forget he's been through hell. A bit of PTSD is only to be expected. Hopefully the experience, with it's positive outcome, will help him get over his lingering fears. Poor dear boy. I love you
