Fantastic news for Ralphie! He's gonna LOVE that place! And I'm glad you've decided to give huggy-bear Walt a try at home. Skippy obviously approves, and if Abby accepts him (and it sounds like she might) you may have a Lab back in the family again. Nothing finer, IMO. (side note, my best friend for many years was my Black Lab, Abby -- I'm taking the name thing as a good sign Very Happy )

Let us know how it all goes, yes?

Abbie was pretty aggressive toward Walt when we took them both out on leash today. We kept it very short, as she was getting stressed, and he was scared of her. We'll take it slow and see how it goes, though. Walt was a good little boy today--no mistakes inside so far.

It all sounds normal and wonderful to me. I hope Abbie gets used to the new addition, and that things calm down. I'm sure they will. I know they're in the most supportive place they can me. Smile

Ralphie hit the doggie jackpot! cheers His new home sounds wonderful and his peoples can spend a lot of time with him since they don't have to be gone from home for work very much.

I hope Walt and Abby do better in time. They should, it's just they have to sort out who's top dog in the doggie part of your family pack.

Abbie is pretty highly strung, and part of her reaction is a stress response. We will try, but we have to be careful. She really scared Walt yesterday!

On a related note, Walt was pretty sick last night. He threw up copiously at about 9:00 last night, then threw up the water he drank about an hour later. Kevin got him in to the vet this morning first thing. No parvo; he probably swallowed something he shouldn't have. (I took a couple of peanut shells away from him yesterday. He may have gobbled one down when my back was turned.) We probably wouldn't have taken him in, but he did have the 2 sibs that had the parvo once they were transferred to the other rescue group. We're to keep him on chicken broth today, special bland food tomorrow, and gradually get him back to his regular food after that. That's to be expected with a lab--anything might be food, it's best not to risk missing out. Eat it first, ask questions later.

Sure sounds like he ate a few peanuts in the shell, shell and all. Hopefully it will all pass.....literally.....in a day or two.

Abby was nicer to Walt today. He politely presented his belly, and after a careful assessment of his gender, Abby pretty well lost interest in him. Baby steps.

This weekend Abby and Walt have been playing! We've been giving them lots of short play times, and Abs will even let Walt chase her, and she's even rolled over and let him see her tummy a couple of times. She lets him through gates and doors ok (that's an issue with her) and really seems to like him. It's been a good couple of days for them.

An added benefit of all the play is that Abs is much more relaxed. This evening, she didn't even get up to bark at the neighbor's hated red pickup. (She barked a little, she's not made of stone, but she didn't lift her head up off the dog bed.)

Sounds like things are progressing well now, just took a few days for them to sort things out among themselves. I bet it was fun to watch them play together.

Our Abbie may have found something more fulfilling to think about than obsessing about trivial annoyances. Good! Very Happy

To Abby, there's no such thing as a trivial annoyance. Laughing She's still upset by things like the red truck, but she's too tired to bark out the front door.
