Re: Patrick the cat
I broke down Patrick's big cage and got it out of the hallway yesterday. So far he spends most of his time hiding under a shelf in the hallway, but I can reach him and put him into the bathroom when I want to. He and Bernie sleep and play together just fine. We had a weird incident this morning. Patrick and Bernie were shut up in the bathroom so that we could move some dogs back and forth to the bedroom. Kevin went into the bathroom, and Patrick freaked out and sort of attacked him, and then Patrick jumped up on the vanity and knocked a bunch of stuff on the floor.
Don't know what he was thinking, and he didn't hurt Kevin really. One of those mysterious cat things, no doubt.

Yeah, those kitties can get startled all of a sudden when someone invades their space!

Re: Patrick the cat
I think Arni's right and Patrick was just startled when he attacked, especially after hearing a herd of dogs go by. If he's anything like Weezer, knocking stuff off the counter was, in a way, an apology. He was showing that he knew the space and was in control of it, plus he wanted a little human attention now that he was himself again.
Feral cats have their own way of looking at things, that's for sure.

Re: Patrick the cat
Well, I don't think that Patrick is bothered by dogs. When it was time to put him to bed in the bathroom last night, he was nowhere to be found. I moved everything around in the hallway and in the bathroom to try and locate him, with no luck. It turns out that he had stolen into the bedroom (this could only have happened when we were moving dogs in or out, so he must have gone in there through their legs) and was hiding under the bed. When we managed to shoo him out from under the bed, he huddled up next to our dog Skippy, who was very concerned about the situation. I was able to pick him up with no issues, and got him safely tucked in with Bernie and a hot water bottle.

Awwwww, he was looking to Skippy for protection. Kinda like 'mom hide me'.

Do you think you could give Patrick and Skippy some more time together at some point? Animals sometimes make connections we can't fathom.

Re: Patrick the cat
Skippy is a tad bit unpredictable with kitties. He wants them to stay together in the same room, and keep off the furntiture. The kitties don't cooperate. Anyway, he occasionally tries to chase kitties he perceives as being bad, so he can't spend time with them unsupervised. I don't know that Patrick was so much trying to snuggle up with Skip anyway. It was more like he was trying to be inconspicuous.

Re: Patrick the cat
I get it. Well, even if they're not spiritual best buds, at least Skippy didn't freak on him when he was in scardy cat hiding mode. It's all good.
Hoo, girl, you have your hands full, don't you, constant critter wrangling? Bless you, your patience and good sense!

Gotta admit, with all the wrangling going on life certainly isn't boring and every day is different from the others.

Re: Patrick the cat
We took Patrick to the Pet Fair yesterday. He didn't find a home, so after the fair he went to Look What the Cat Brought In. He will find a home more quickly through them, and he won't have to have any more scary van rides. Poor little guy was pretty scared to be in a new place, but he has his own cubby and some very kind people to help settle him in.

Re: Patrick the cat
I sure hope the same thing, Patrick deserves a good home with people who will understand and be patient with his skittishness. He gets that and he will show his gratitude by being the best loving kitty he can possibly be. Will that rescue give you updates on him?

Re: Patrick the cat
I get lots of updates from this rescue, and I have seen some of my former foster kitties when I go by to drop off the new ones. Even those who don't get adopted have it better there than at my place, as they have entire rooms with lots of compatible kitty friends instead of my puny bathroom/hallway, and lots of kind volunteers to love them up and take good care of them.

When you see your former fosters, do they remember you? Do they mew for you to love on them again too?

Re: Patrick the cat
Sometimes they want attention. Usually they're trying to get into a room where they're not allowed.
