Bij had quite a busy day yesterday, mom was up early to get ready to go to the doctor. He wouldn't let her sleep anyway: wanting food, cuddles, and who knows what else since the wee hours of the morning. Racing to the door when we got back smelling of burgers and fries (no he didn't get any of that), he demanded something to eat right away. Mom and I are trying really hard to find a source for his favorite treats so we were gone to use the computer for a while shortly after we got back from the dr office. Guess who was at the door mewing for us when we got back? Played musical shoulders for a while, then musical laps. Then mewing at the door again to go out, mewing again when he heard people in the hallway, and mewing yet again a little while later for a walk? In between he was a little furry pest, doing his Mesmero act hoping for early or extra dinner. When he finally gave up and snuggled into his cuddlebed for a while his dinnertime came.......and he just gave me a hopeful look. When I told him to meet me in the kitchen he just sat there a moment. I guess he wasn't sure he heard me right, I was halfway to the kitchen before he raced past me. I got some thankyou kisses and he snuggled into the cuddlebed next to my chair to purr for me while I read. Got a very nice escort out of the building.

Aww! What a nice little guy. Petie jumped into bed with us yesterday. He was just looking for his sleepy spot by my pillows, but he seemed to be happy to be with us. It seems to be friendly time.

Cold weather sure seems to give them greater incentive to snuggle. Mom reports Bij is even more snuggly than usual...if that's even possible. He takes one look at all that snow and comes to immediately warm up again with icy toes. I'm okay from my falls.....so far anyway. Today's weather is even worse than last Thursday, and it's very slick out.

Bijoux was right at the door to greet me as usual, looking for snuggles. He of course wanted to go to Brads door again to look for him but we told no, we'll go later. Mom and I spent some time on the computer, and Bij was warming up my chair for me when we got back. Nice song n dance for treats and crunchies, some major snuggling (my but his toes get sooooo cold!), and an early dinner. He ate and ate and ate, all mom said was he was really really hungry. Practically swaggered back to the livingroom to give her thankyou snuggles. I tried to get a nitenite kiss despite mom saying ewwww.....fishy breath. I told her I wouldn't care what was on his breath as long as I got my kiss from him.

It was warm and windy today. Tomorrow is going to be chilly, and then the cold gets here again. This has been the weirdest winter. It's warmer than average with a few REALLY cold days scattered around.

Glad you're surviving in one piece, Fiff.

So far I'm surviving, in one very much bundled up piece today. 7 layers to keep warm. I bet Bij will be a real snugglebug for mom and me tonight, it's supposed to get even colder all day. He stole mom's warm spot on the couch last night, and gave me such a look when I tattled to mom about it.

I got a nice greeting after I stripped off the extra layers last night, and some nice warm snuggles first on my shoulder (guess he thought my head and ear needed warming--but he only does the one side), then on my lap, purring all the while. He didn't even mind when I gave him a nice tight hug either, just purred louder. Mom laid down for a while with Bij snuggled with her, but then he came back to give my shoulder another dose of bodyheat. I wish he'd warm the other shoulder and ear too, I felt a tad cold yet. Wetfood revue started really early, as soon as it got dark outside. He'd eaten every morsel of his crunchies, several treats.......and asked for more. He must really think he has to fatten up to stay warm this winter despite the heat in the building. Mom says it gets cold in there late at night, around 2am, so he isn't doing his usual zipping around at that hour like he did last summer. Got a nice escort to the door since he insisted on a postdinner ride on the walker. Had all we could do to hold him off until the program we were watching was done.

I gather your Mom doesn't have a thermostat in her
apartment and that the apartment heat is control by a central
unit.

We set our heat to go down at night to save some money. Maybe your mom's place is the same. I know our kitties seem to stay snugged all night. I hear Petie coming down the stairs for a snack, but he goes right back up to his bed.

I'm the reverse here, my temp is 68 during the day and 72 at night. I'm not in the
apartment for at least six to seven hours during the day so there is no point in keeping
it at 72.

Re: BIJOUX

There is a thermostat but I suspect it's only there for looks. No matter where she sets it the temp seesaws anyway. Right around 8pm it gets soooooo hot in there, but by 2am it's nearly freezing. The thermostats don't work at all if the office hasn't turned the buildings' main heat on.

Bij was right at the door waiting on the walker seat for me. He'd heard me in the hall with one of the neighbors. Got a nice cheerful mew as he watched me strip off the coats, hats, scarves, and pants. (yes you read that right--multiples of everything) Picked him up and got immediate loud purrs. As soon as I sat down I got my ear warmer again.....he only warms the left. I tried putting him on the right side but he fought to switch sides. My ears got warmed a LOT last night. Only snuggled in my lap for a short while, then it was back to sit on my shoulder draped over my head again. Left long enough to bug mom for some milk from her bowl (it had sugar in it), then it was back to warm my ear again. Wetfood revue started early and we both got treated to several choruses of barely audible mews, intense Mesmero hypnosis attempts, and "aren't I so cute cuddling, don't you want to feed me now" snuggles. hehehehehe silly boy. He did get an early dinner since we both were tired and mom wanted to nap a bit without him bugging her for food. Got a nice thankyou snuggle and immediate request for a postdinner ride on the walker. Seems he expects to go for a ride to escort me out after his dinner, whether I plan on leaving then or not. Maybe it helps settle his tummy so he can sleep better, I don't know. No nitenite kisses, and Bij reacted to the blast of cold air that came in when I opened the outside door to leave. Hunkered down and mewed for mom to get him the heck out of there.

My left ear got a lot of warming last night too by my lil purring earwarmer! Not met at the door because he was all snuggly with mom. Somehow he seems to think the moment I get there it must be wetfood and ride time. He asks for both as soon as I arrive. If he doesn't get them my ear gets warmed. Don't know how my bony shoulder can be more comfy than a nice soft lap....... got a nice Wetfood Revue when he wasn't warming my ear or mewing at the door to go look for Brad again. No escort last night to the door, he was too busy napping off a huge dinner!

Bijoux has been warming my ear all week long, just the one. When I asked how come he doesn't warm the other one I just get this "are you crazy?" look from him. Every night he cries for Brad at the door, drags us to his apartment, parks his fuzzbutt there crying to be let in, and we practically have to drag him away. We told Brad about this and Bij mewed loudly when he heard Brads voice. I swear he'd call out the Rescue Squad to find Brad if he could. Mom left last night to help redecorate the community room and instead of snuggling with me or asking me for dinner, he sat at the door and waited for her--for over an hour. As a result his dinner was LATE without protest. Great fanfare though when he realized he was getting dinner.....and thankyous all around. He still insists on a nightly walker ride before bedtime.

Lil guy is having surgery Monday to remove a couple mutated hair follicles (hyperkeritinized patch), considered a precancerous condition. He'd had two others removed almost two years ago and the pathology was benign. We hope for the same outcome this time.

The condition sounds similar to the tumor Sabi had in his hoof. It was keratin gone wild.

Hugs to you and Bij and hopes for a benign outcome!

Just a quick note: just picked Bij up and they found 4 of those dreaded things on his tummy near the nipples. Nearly next to the 2 he had taken off 2 years ago. These 4 are being sent to pathology to make sure these are benign too. He has stitches that come out in 11 days. Poor lil guy. Not supposed to do a lot of jumping, so fixed all his favorite napping spots with stepups for easy access. First thing he did when he got home was use the litterpan, then look for a drink and food. We're spoiling him rotten today with wetfood and treats. Now to make sure he doesn't jump or lick too much at those stitches.

These things look like a big yellowed grain of uncooked rice stuck in his side. Makes me wonder if his littermates have the same problem. We'll never know since he was a shelter find at 5 1/5 months old, picked up off the streets.

Re: BIJOUX

Post by fiffur on Tue Jan 31, 2012 1:47 pm

They handed me Bij straight away at the vets....he was still a lil out of it but happy to see me. I kissed him, hugged him carefully, and asked him if he was okay. I got a lil kiss in reply. No trouble getting him in the carrier to go home. He did snuggle with me a little, but mostly slept in between small wetfood meals. (I did tell him not to expect that sort of treatment concerning meals every day) Mom didn't even disturb him on the couch when he stole her warm spot, just so he could rest some more. He'd had a very hard long tiring day after a night without sleep. Mom remembers being extra tired herself after surgery so she can sympathize. The places where the masses were removed don't seem to bother him much, and he was jumping despite all the stepups we put out for him and doc's orders not to. Typical: he didn't listen to his doc's instructions. Even the vet was surprised he bounced back that fast when we called him to give him an update last night. Dissolving sutures so no stitch removal, but he still goes back for his distemper shot and postop checkup a week from Friday. I made sure Bij got lots of kisses and gentle hugs and I even went over a lot earlier than usual just to sit with him. Bij followed me when I went to scoop the pan out, inspected my work, then christened it again just for me, and went back to sleep some more.

He should be much more his old self tonight. Mom even said she'd take him for a ride if he was up to it tonight.

Silly Bijoux! You should stop jumping around. I am resting for you. How was your ride? I don't get rides. I did jump in a wheelbarrow the other day, but my meowmy did not wheel it around. She's silly too.

Hi, Gateway, where have you been? How are you doing?. Meowmy washed the bedding on
the Giant Cat Bed today. So I've napped in that, then I helped her make it. She's still not finished
because I'm camped out in the rest of it. We even played chase with one of my Schmice. I even got
brushed but then I started to act silly so we played chase again. Tonio

Re: BIJOUX

Post by fiffur on Wed Feb 01, 2012 1:24 pm

Yeah Arni, we have to be careful where we hold him right now. Most of the time we let him come to us or I pick him up under the armpits with a hand under his butt. I know those areas are safe to handle. Bij is still sleeping a lot, he's tried to snuggle on my lap a few times but his tummy must hurt too much cause he can't stay long. So he snuggles next to me or mom so we can pet him and he can feel our body heat. He is a bit more active but still no walker rides, mom is leary about him having to tense up tummy muscles to balance on the seat. Didn't stop him from asking for a ride last night though. I have not been greeted at the door since his surgery, he's always in bed when I come in. So I go to him for a hello kiss. Mom got him a new toy at the grocery store yesterday and he only played with it a little bit. Guess he's still a bit too sore to play much too. He asked mom for food yesterday morning and she went to get wetfood but he sat by his crunchies bowl and mewed for crunchies! Guess he wanted something different. We got a very brief wetfood revue show last night for wetfood (an extra large helping which he gorged himself on) and he gave both of us thankyou kisses and snuggled into my lap for a few minutes, then his cuddlebed by mom for his postdinner nap.

I hope I get my usual greeting and escort to the door soon, I actually miss that right now. And my heavy furry earwarmer......
