Pavie is at the Bridge

Post by bpaquet on Tue Jan 31, 2012 9:48 am

I was pony sitting for my trainer over the weekend. Everything was fine until Sunday evening when Pavie came in with a tummy ache. He was pretty painful. He was lying on the ground and stretching his legs, but he wasn't sweating or biting at his sides like lots of colic cases do. I called the vet and she said to give him some banamine (pain killer) and walk him around. He might just have gas. Of course, I also called trainer who was on her way home and waiting at the airport.

As the night went, the poor old man just got worse and worse. I left at about 2:00 AM, and the vet, who had come to give medical treatment, left at about 2:30. No improvement. My trainer called the next morning at 7:30 to ask the vet to put him down. Sad

Poor Pavie had a twisted small intestine that was not letting things pass through. There would have been no recovery. I am very sad.

OhNo, poor Pavie! That would've been very painful.....and surgery is no permanent cure even if he could've survived it.

My sympathies to you and your trainer for the loss of Pavie. Twisted intestines is an ORDEAL for humans that can have surgery...

Poor guy, I know your trainer was heart broken that she could not
have been there. Becky, condolences to everybody, especially your trainers.

The trainer's plane landed at midnight, and she made it home in time to spend Pavie's last hours with him. I think he held on for her. She is sad, but also knows that he is no longer suffering. He was old and had Cushings disease, so he was faced with lots of problems as life continued.

The barn feels empty without big Pavie to nicker hello.

You know it's strange how they can do that.

All best comforting thoughts to you and your trainer as you are still getting used to the barn as it is now.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm also glad that the trainer was able to be with Pavie in his last moments. He only knew that his people were there with him and that he was loved.
