6/19/10 - Father's Day

Post by BobCat on Sun Jun 20, 2010 3:08 pm

Since neither Wesley nor I have dads any more, it's easy to forget about it being Father's Day. The Google banner reminded me of a fun little thing we did playing a Groucho Marx record for Dad each year, and he'd get such a kick out of it.

Today, however, I officially launched this site! I made each of these "What Are You Doing" topics into their own little forum, so maybe we can have different topics for different days. We'll see how that works out...

Other than that, we took the dogs to the p-a-r-k, and now I'm about to go shopping. I have a $10 off coupon that's burning a hole in my pocket!

Maybe they'll play a bit of that song! My dad's been gone since 1997 - a long time ago now.

My dad lost his dad(my grandpa) last August and it's the first Father's Day he doesn't have his dad around. My dad doesn't seem depressed or anything and he hasn't mentioned it around me.

fluff, sometimes it takes a year or two for it to hit ya. the best thing is if you can keep your dad busy doing things on a day like today.
did you do anything special with/for him today?

I spent a big part of the day with my Dad and family. My Dad is 86, still well and active, and I know, every day, how lucky I am to have such a great guy as my father and to still have him with me.

Men seem to try to be very stoic about things like this too. He may not show his feelings because that's the way he was raised.

I didn't do anything special for him. I did give him presents that my mom bought for him before she left to spend a week with her sister. I didn't think about how he was raised that may explain it.

i always have to calculate it for my dad....i know i was working at the store and i think it was the first year i was there.i remember i didn't really know anyone but the person who was 'managing' that day let me take several breaks to run to the back and try to make calls to find a flight out to the funeral. and i only remember that it was during the week before father's day cuz the day after the funeral i went to church with my cousin and her family and they had a special father's day thing.
