Things were quiet today. Casper and Envoy are saluting and saying, "Yes sir!" I guess they must have done something to deserve a bit of discipline.

Sabi is tucked into his stall because we're having some thunder and lightening. No running around like a mad horse for Mr. Roo. The storms are bringing cooler weather, so we'll be fine with them. We need the rain!

Did you get some rain Becky? Smart move to keep Sabi in, no more panic attacks to hurt his foot this time.

It has been a glorious, wonderful, rainy day. Right now, we're having a mild downpour, but most of the rain has been the good soaking kind. It's supposed to be wet tomorrow. I went to the horse races (Virginia Derby) today, and the race horses seemed happy that it wasn't a miserably hot day. I'm enjoying the break from the awful hot weather.

Sabi had lots of fun in the rain. He was out in the pasture while we were gone. We got home around 11 PM, and he was in the paddock to say hello. He was ready for supper. It isn't like he couldn't be grazing, but he does like his night time munchies and a nice, dry bed for sleeping. Smile

Today, he got to have a late afternoon nap in his stall. We had some HUGE thunderstorms, and he was unhappy about it. So, all the boys came in for early dinner and are now out enjoying the weather, which has become wonderfully cooler. I'm wondering if he'd like to spend the night in the pasture since it's so nice out. It is wet though. No dry bed out there today.

Any way to keep the barn door open to the pasture? Then he could be out in the pasture and if he wanted a dry place to sleep he could let himself in the barn to his stall. Or are they too far apart to do that?

Oh no. That isn't possible. The barn butts up to one of the pastures, but the front door of the barn opens right into the driveway, and then it's right out to the road.

Sabi will spend the night outside tonight because it's SO nice. Tomorrow is farrier day, so he will come in for breakfast and get a nice long nap before he goes back out with nice trimmed toes.

As always, we're interested to hear the farrier's report. Question

Sabi's foot continues not to get worse. He is growing new foot material slowly, but the weird pattern of growth seems to be gone. He had a lot of his ragged toe trimmed, and the hoof looks pretty good He isn't sore at all. So, we will continue to do what we're doing. The farrier wonders about putting on a shoe at all. Since Sabi is happy with his boots, and doesn't seem to be overly sore without a shoe, it might not be worth changing anything at this point.

I wouldn't meddle with success, either, certainly not at this point. Sabi seems to be healing well, at his own rate. I'm so glad! I love you You'll see how he gets along after the trim.

So far, so good. He's going around just like before the trim. I'm always a little scared to see if he gets ouch, but he hasn't done that in a while. I won't take anything for granted though. We will keep treating him like the special guy he is and always consider his foot worth an extra look.

Today was carrot top day. My CSA basket had a bunch of carrots in it, and I chopped them up for a borscht. I gave the top inch and all the leaves to the boys. Sabi taught Casper how to suck the leaves in like spaghetti. Laughing

Sabi has decided that he needs to keep his boys in line. The two younger ones were running around having a good time. Sabi reached out and bit Envoy on the rump when he got too close. He doesn't mind playing, but HE needs to initiate the play. Laughing

Yes it was, I think a stern whinny of warning would've sufficed instead of a nip.

I don't think it was a mean or grumpy nip. It was more like he was telling them to be careful around him. They were rough housing, and he might not have wanted anyone accidentally kicking him. Leaders often tell the others to settle down.

He was energetic this morning. It was pretty cool for August, and he wanted to go OUT to his grass.
