I got everything togethere to go as Moochy, but then Halloween was cancelled because of the superstorm. Sigh. the next week we had a halloween party and alot of the people came in costume. I didn't go the full route because it was so busy I didn't have time to put on makeup etc and I wasn't going to reide the traisn that way, so just wore the cat ears and tail and black slacks and sweater. I'll save the costume for next year

I'm really depressed because I got the new calendar from the museum and there are NO classes through April. I've got to email Jorge, who used to be the education director to find out what is going on.

Maybe he's taking a winter break? So when it's nicer outside more people will come to the classes?

no, he's no longer in that position. he's doing research and lecturing for the museum now. There have always been classes, even over the winter months

One good thing coming up though is a concert with Buffy Saint Marie, one of my favorite folk singers from the 60's. She is one of the artists represented in an exhibit at the museum, "UP Where We Belong"

That's something to look forward to at least. Maybe they just haven't found anyone yet to conduct craft classes to replace him.

its not that. They usually get craftsmen from all over to do the classes and give exhibitions. I've been taught by some very well know people. one of the doll teachers actually has dolls at the white House. I just think they are cutting back on alot of things and it's too expensive to pay for these people to come into NY and put them up in hotels, etc. They've also been doing alot of other things on Thursday nights (which is the only late night the museum is open

I missed the Bead garage sale at the beading Society last week, but i see the Whole bead show is going to be next weekend. I'm going to try to go. maybe seeing all those bead will inspire me to get back into it

Scouting around for some dead lightbulbs and a couple of pump dispensers. I want to make a few lightbulb vases and a mason jar dispenser for my hand soap in the bathroom and kitchen.

Just got the calendar from the museum and there is a 3 part class for intermediate beaders making a pendant. My friend Cody Harjo will be teaching it and it will be her last class as she will be leaving the Museum.
also there will be a beading circle every Thursday night from October thru November where we can just sit around and bead our little hearts out woking on our own projects.

Well thanks to the gove shutdown they cancelled the last class , because the Museum is part of the Smithsoian. However I was able to finish the beading portion and cut out the pendant. Now hopefully they will rescheduled the class so I can finish it

I know the basics of how to do it. I've put together a lot of pins, but I don't know how to put the bale on for this. If worse comes to worst I will just finish it as a pin. I was going to do a bale/pin combo anyway.
the shutdown is over but not in time to open the museum tonight

Maybe you can find that info online? If not you can always finish it off the way you're planning.

went to the class last night. I'm glad they had it since I needed to find out how to complete the project. One little thing I needed to find out about was attaching the bale. Also wanted to take advantage of the tacky glue at the class. Almost finished now. just need to apply the edging to sew together the beadwork and the leather backing. Instead of just a pendant I also added a pin back so It can be worn as a pendant or a pin
next week there will be a beading circle, not a class but just a get together where people can work on their projects. Unfortunately it will be the last beading class for a while. Cody, who has been giving the classes if moving to Washington DC The new head of the education department says they are looking for someone local who can take over the classes.

And it's more fun when you do it with friends too. That's why my mom's building has a crafting circle going now. They're making scarves for the Winpy's Fund giveaway next month. Any kids who don't have one will get one for free. Knit, crochet, felted, fleece, you name it. Such a rainbow of colors too.

hopefully I will finish the pendant this weekend. I'm hoping I will be able to sell it as it is really not my style. I also want to start on the ladybug keychain I promised one of the fellow patrons at the diner. that's a definite sale when I finish it
