Are you referring to the tragic accident that happened last night at the state fair? If so, the storm that went through played a role. The state fair is closed to the public today as a result of it. I didn't realized it made national news. I heard about a tragic accident at the fair during the Colts preseason game last night, but no details were given. It wasn't until the local 11pm news that I found out what happened.

I saw it on the news last night also. It was awful. I also read something about in the L.A. Times
this morning.

The scaffolding wasn't meant to withstand that strong of wind as it was.

I think that storms's the same one that rolled through here in IL Friday afternoon around dinnertime. I can understand why that grandstand blew over like it did. Still, it was tragic.........

There were watches and warnings out, so it wasn't like they didn't know that a storm was coming. There was seating on the race track portion there were still people on the track when the stage fell over. I wonder if there were people who didn't take the watches and warnings serious enough.

I remeber hearing they didn't start clearing out right away like they were told too late to do something.

There were warnings and watches out advance enough that someone, if anyone was taking the weather seriously, hopefully would had enough sense to move people out early enough towards the buildings. From what I have heard on the local news is the there is a severe weather policy, but it's vague and doesn't include the grandstand.

it's really a shame. One of the women who died was a transplanted New Yorker. She had been very active in GLBT causes

Apparently the coroner had mistakenly declared the seventh person as being dead when she was declared brain dead. The family has here on life support long enough to have organs, tissues etc removed to be donated.
