thankful it was a beautiful day today to commemorate 9/11 . from my office I could hear some of the ceremony. I can look out every day at one of the waterfall reflecting pools in the Memorial. (at least for now, until the ongoing construction hides the view.
I still get a bit of a thrill every morning on my way to work when I turn right onto Vesey Street from Broadway and see the beautiful freedom Tower reaching to the sky

Some of the photos from 9/11 are still haunting even today. I will have to look it up but there is a series
of photos taken I think while the Towers were still burning that reminded me a scenes from I think either
Berlin or Bremerhaven of a church. I think it was called die Frauenkirke. I'll have to look it up.

The 9/11 memorial preview site is in the same building where I work. (If you remember I posted last year when pres. Obama visited some 9/11 families there) It is where people go to pick up their passes to the Memorial, and it has some artifacts, etc that will eventually go in the Memorial Museum. This morning they were unloading a sculpture called I WILL and setting up for people to take pledges to do a service, etc on 9/11 every year.

I'm thankful for thick socks! The only part of me that isn't cold as I type this are my feet.

Don't remind me Lovekitties......it feels like it's already here.

I'm thankful I made that nice afghan a couple years ago, the bed is nice and warm with it on top of the fleece blankets. Keeps the body heat in.

Kinda restores your faith in human nature, doesn't it? And in SOME companies that care enough to hire and encourage this kind of above-and-beyond service. I hope you'll get on their website and say thanks! Our appreciation lets them know how important it is!

I'm thankful that I made it through Sandy, the frankenstorm without losing power, although I haven't been able to get to work yet.
and I'm praying for all those who still do not have power, and who have lost loved ones or their homes and businesses to the storm and the aftermath. Some of the stories are truly heartrending, whole communities swept away or lost to fire. over 40 deaths in New York City alone, incuding almost half on Staten Island. I still haven't been able to get hold of my friends on Staten Island

LK, you don't know how happy I am to hear from you. I've heard from Jeane on FB, she is without
power and had to use the library. No flooding though. When she comes back in I'll let her fill you
in.

Lovekitties, I'm very thankful you made it through the storm without losing power, or your home, or getting hurt.......I was so worried for you and Jeane.

I just saw in the paper today that full service is back on my train line, though not on the train I switch to to get to my office, so I will have to switch to a different line, or just walk down from Canal Street. My first job will be to go to the train station after I get out of here to make sure the trains ARE running, then I'll just see how my leg is doing on Monday, to see if I'll chance walking, though of course standing on the train is just as bad LOL
