Thanks again to all of you. My next appointment is Sept 1 where I'll learn more about the "process" that I'll be following - I expect 7 to 9 weeks of daily radiation doses - about 15 minutes a day.

A good friend's husband recently finished that round of daily radiation, and did very well too. The biggest physical obstacles for him were fatigue and the radiation discomfort to the skin. Another thing he had to fight was a bit of depression regarding the whole ordeal, which was not in his nature, so that one kind of blindsided them. So, if you need to vent, God knows you have a couple dozen people here who are willing to listen. That's one nice thing about keeping a somewhat "private club" atmosphere to this board. Everyone is fairly familiar. We all know who's who and what's what.

Jim, I have nothing of substance to add, but can't click away without saying how much I care. Please know you're in my thoughts and have my prayers. You can count on us, dear friend. We'll be reading ancient magazines with you in those tedious hospital waiting rooms, averting our eyes as you get prepped, and holding your hands every minute of every procedure. And never forget we're always here to listen, good or bad. I love you

HAH! That's something I forgot to check - "reading ancient magazines in tedious hospital waiting rooms..." - if my appointments are for the morning, I'll bring the morning paper - if they're afternoon sessions, I guess it's time to catch up on my book reading!

Thanks to all of you! Jim

I am so sorry you have to go through this Jim. I know you'll hang in there and do whatever is needed for your health. And we're there for you too anytime you need to vent, that's what friends are for. I'll be thinking and praying for you to come through this with flying colors and stronger than you were going in. Definitely take a book along, the morning newspaper might not take long enough to read until they call you into the therapy room.

My grandma had external radiation therapy for her throat cancer (from smoking so many years). Other than a bit of fatigue and what looked like a bad sunburn at the site she did well, and it worked.

Please keep us posted. We care. And here's some (((((((((((((((((((STRONG HEALING VIBES AND HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hi fluffnstuff and ARNIgal and all the rest of you!

I'm still here, lurking in the background. I haven't actually started the radiation treatments yet - I'm going through the process of CT's, MRI's, etc - and I'm scheduled tomorrow for the placement of the "carbon markers" so they'll know the exact locations for the radiation beams. Then they'll begin the process of radiation - 5 days a week, 8 weeks total. ZAPPPPPOOOOO!

As for Vic - well, he's doing well. Basically, he's settled into the routine of 3 things - food, litterbox, and sleep. No playing with his toys, no staring at birds and squirrels outside the window, no sleeping upstairs with me. I've got myself confined to 2 or 3 sessions a day for some lap time - generally while I'm reading the paper or watching the news. He's quiet at that time and will sit with me, sort of sleeping, then will jump down and curl up in his corner for more sleeping. Tests by the vet have ruled out diabetes, hyperthyroid, kidney problems, nothing showing up on xrays or ultrasound - it maybe something like cancer, who knows? Actually, it may be something like elder dementia. But, he is well, so I'll keep him around!

Meantime, thanks to all of you - Bless you and your furry companions.

So good to hear from you Jim. I've been thinking of you and Vic a lot lately, hoping you both are doing okay and getting better. It's so good that you have Vic to cuddle with during all this.......it helps believe me. My grandma had her dog to help her through it all, just holding him seemed to help. I know Vic won't mind being held a bit more if necessary. And you have us to lean on if you need us. Do what you must and keep faith that all things work out in the end as they should. Please keep us posted.

Good to hear from you, Jim! Sounds like you're getting set for a big challenge. I know you have a lot of courage, but I'm sending you some extra vibes to add on to it. Vic may be reacting to a lot of things, the loss of his kitty cohort, your stress, simply growing older. If you need him, try scooping him up and settling him on your lap while you read or watch TV. He might be glad of the companionship, too.

In any case, my thoughts are with you. I assume you have friends + realtions who will see you through, but remember that we are here, too.

Just catching up here. I hope all goes smoothly, Jim. I'm sure Vic will adjust to the change and will do his best to be a comfort. Kitties do know when their people aren't feeling up to snuff.

Again, thanks to all for their well wishes - I had the markers implanted on Tuesday - there I was, lying on my back with my legs up in the air and the doc says: "OK, now we'll put in the ultrasound probe - you'll feel a bit of pain and pressure". All I can say is that now I know what women go through with their "inspections" with their gynecologists!!!!! SHEEEESH!

Makes you one of the rare men who have a true sympathy and understanding of what we women everywhere go through with our docs. I hope the radiation goes well, and with few side effects. I'm sure Vic will do what he can to make you feel better even if you have to go after him to ASK for some kitty vibes and snuggling. If you need shoulders to lean on or ears to vent to, please...............we're here for you.
