Bath time, yep, that can be an adventure at times. Especially if they
like to play with hose. clown

I don't supposed you can have hubby take a few bathtime pics, can you? Especially if it turns out Xavier likes to play with the hose......pics like that would be priceless.

Weather reports for here are stormy through the weekend, but moving off next week. Hopefully it will be the same for you. Dunno; we're close but can have very different weather since I'm Piedmont and you're more in the marshy coastal wetland area. Whenever bathtime happens, you know we will want at least before and after pics! So will the X Diary (sounds like a movie title, doesn't it? Razz ) so I'm hopeful. Very Happy

Also hopeful X will appreciate his bath. After all that neglect, he might just luxuriate in all the attention. Fingers crossed. He certainly deserves the full spa treatment! I love you

I think the weather took care of baths for me. I got home from work late and there had been some pretty super showers. The rain pounded down, and the horses were already clean. They got tucked into their stalls with hay and dinner, and dried out. They all look squeaky clean today. They went into a new pasture this morning. Xavier's first day in a new one. The grass is thick and tall from all the rain, so I'm sure we won't see much rolling today. But tomorrow will have MUD. I'm sure my gray pony will be brown soon enough and will need a bath. Razz

That's ok. Washing horses can be good when it's hot outside. I like giving baths when the temps are high, so we can all get soaked and then stand under fans.

X got his first try at leading in/out with his new buddies. I took him outside last night with Envoy and brought him in this morning with Sabi. He gets a little confused and wanders, but he is learning. We will have to keep trying because he panics when he's left alone.

Everything is new to him right now. But with the daily routines, his buddies being cool with it all, and your infinite patience, he'll get it. Time, time, time.

He's already leading better. He seems to pay more attention now. I think he's still worried. His poor eyes just look wide and bewildered. Poor guy has gone through so much in the last months. I'm trying to keep everything as steady as possible so he gets used to the routine and can predict what is going to happen. No nasty surprises. Well... Maybe one. He gets to have his mouth rinsed today when Sabi does. He had some pretty nasty abrasions in his mouth from his teeth being neglected. His teeth are better, but he needs "mouthwash" to keep everything healing well.

How did he do with having his mouth rinsed out? Poor boy, glad he is leading better. You said he was
good for the shoer and the vet. I hate seeing that look in an animals eye, I'm sure that as time goes by it
will disappear.

same here, sue. its so sad to see an animal scared. there's something about seeing the whites of their eyes.
what sort of stuff do they use for the mouth rinse? is it antibiotic or is it something more like Listerine for horses?

Hopefully he'll realize Sabi is having the mouth rinse, too, and will see Sabi shake it off. I'm counting on his buddies showing him the way. That's assuming, of course, that Sabi is cool about it. Is he?

Sabi is true to form. He takes it all well and then SPITS WATER ON ME. Suspect Pony revenge.

X took his mouth rinse ok. He wasn't thrilled, but he put up with it. My husband held his halter and I did the squirting. I use an antibiotic solution mixed in water, and put it in a pump sprayer with a wand on the end. I put the wand in the side of their mouth and squirt away. It always washes out a bunch of chewed up grass and hay. Yum -- NOT.

I'm sure with all the moves Xavier's been through in the past few months he's wondering how long he'll be at your place before moving again............after a while he'll learn he's there to stay and will relax. Glad he took the mouse rinse well, I'm sure Sabi gave him a great example to follow. I know you will bring Xavier around, in time. Poor guys' been through a lot, so it will take some time. All worth it in the end though...........

When will we be seeing some pics of Xavier? **hint, hint**

Jeane, I got to thinking about your post where you mentioned the "whites of the eyes".
It's not that look that is so heartbreaking it's the look of fear and sadness you see in the eye of
shelter animals. Maybe I'm reading to much in to it but Antonio was just panic stricken when I first say him.
He was desperate to get out and be home. I think he would have not had a chance if I had not come along.

X doesn't have the scared burning barn look. He has the worried look -- wrinkled brow and eyes that look around for the unsuspected. He is so sweet that he doesn't do anything silly, but I can tell that he had some unpleasant things happen. Horses don't normally look worried unless they've seen bad things. Poor guy. I hope that look goes away as time goes on.

Today was come in out of the heat, get a shower and stand under the fans day. The one thermometer I pass on the drive home said 100 degrees. PHEW! Everybody was covered in sweat. They were very glad to get their showers and time inside.

I think he will Becky. Since you don't know his complete background, you can only guess
and go on your own instincts. I don't know how long he was in the bad foster care situation and then
was shifted to a better situation. Now he is in wonderful home, with excellent food and care. Established
routine. No worrying about if and when he's going to get another meal etc.
