Hoo, boy. here we go again

Post by gbste on Wed Feb 16, 2011 9:06 pm

We went out to the feral colony after school to try to catch a cat for spay or neuter. (I have a cat grasper, as they won't go into the traps.) Well, among all the big wildies was a little 10 week old siamese kitten, so that's who we grabbed. Now I have crates stacked two high in my bathroom--the siamese and also Freddy. I'm going to see if one of the other volunteers will help me out here. The siamese is scared, but she let me handle her, bathe her, and flea comb her, and she even purred while I was working on her, so she should tame down ok. I'll try for pics tomorrow. She's a very dark seal point, with beautiful turquoise eyes.

I know it's really not funny but you know it really is funny.
I think the Siamese if you Pleasah will be easily adopted.

Yes, siamese kittens go very quickly, so there should be no problem getting her a home. She's fine with being handled, but everything else in the house is pretty scary--all those sounds and smells, and my ocd little dog who has noticed that there's yet another kitten and will NOT let it go.

I'm thinking that I'll call her Coco if that name has not been used recently in the rescue. We don't use numbers for our rescues, so we can't repeat a name within a year.

How about naming her Ming? She sounds as pretty as a Ming vase. I'd love to see a pic or two of her.

I'll try for a picture in the next day or so. Don't want the flash to freak her out too much. She's eating well and seems a bit calmer today.

Ming is a good name. I was thinking Coco partly for her coloring, and partly for Coco Chanel, as this is one stylish looking kitten.

Well, SCARF has had a Cocoa and a Cocoa Puffs, but not since 2009, and not any cats, so I think we'll go with Coco for her. It fits her pretty well, actually. She now purrs at us from inside her crate, and is a little more relaxed. She threw up her breakfast this morning, but I don't know if that's a serious thing or not. Kevin will probably take her to the vet today anyway, so they can check her out and vaccinate her if she's not sick. I gave her wormer yesterday, so she may have had a reaction to that.

She might've just eaten too fast or have a hairball blocking tummy access. Bijoux has thrown up his breakfast on occasion for those reasons. I hope it wasn't a reaction to the wormer.

Looking forward to those pics.

Kevin says that cats vomit like people sneeze. Lots of times it means nothing in particular. She's still under stress, so that can cause problems. We'll just keep her off food for awhile, and maybe just give her some broth this afternoon--let the tummy settle.

Maybe smaller meals for a bit would help? Help slow her eating down a bit, until she learns she won't go hungry if she doesn't gorge herself.

Darn...I can't think of the particular name of the stomach condition, but Siamese cats & mixes are particularly prone to it...but it makes 'em yack up their food a bit more than usual...so maybe something a bit more easy on the stomach would do the trick... Smile

I know what you're talking about ARNI. I can't remember the name either, but I know my vet recommends the special tummy food for it. I think lots of companies make foods that are easy on the tummies. I hope the little girl settles down and can go back to eating normally.

She ate fine last night, and everything stayed where it was supposed to stay for the normal amount of time. I'll look for some sensitive tummy food when we're at the store in case she has more trouble. She goes to the vet in a little while for her first vaccination. We couldn't get her in yesterday.

You're not going to have any trouble finding a home for this beauty, I'm sure of that. What did the vet say?
