Tribute panels

Post by fiffur on Mon Dec 27, 2010 2:59 pm

I've managed to find the past three weeks worth of inspirations for the tribute panels at wikipedia.org. They're all illustrations for the first edition of A Christmas Carol printed in 1843.

i don't know why but today's reminds me of Curious George...like Curious George goes to the hospital (cuz earl is in a sort of dressy looking thing). i'm probably wrong, but that's the first thing that came into my head wheni saw it. That or the Yellow Kid?

Maybe it's the inside title page from that book. I'll have to dig my copy out and see.........

It's familiar (though I can't put my finger on it), but it's also an absolutely precious strip - I had to put that one in my signature for awhile so I can look at it. I love the way Earl's tail fwips when he looks up at his Ozzie.

I think Earl's expressions and his personality have both changed since Amelie joined the McDonnell household. You can't help but see young dog influences in his work now. Earl is much more active and expressive, whereas he used to be much more low-key when the real Earl was still with us.

First thing I thought of was the old Around the World in 80 Days movie. Maybe it's the poster for it?

I forgot to bring a book to check with patrick about tributes we can't find, but I did remember this one, since it was recent. the April 10th strip with Henri the working dog (poodle)
The tribute is the logo for Hanky Panky underwear. Patrick knows the owners and the dog is a real dog.

I can't port over a copy of the logo, butr you can google Hanky Panky underwear and go to images

probably can't do a cut and paste because when you roll over it changes wording.
i checked out the stuff on there but i don't think it would be very comfortable! though there are some special organic cotton items for earth day.

Any idea what inspired this last sunday tribute panel? I keep thinking it's a magician's show poster but I know that isn't right.
