Fall is not my season. First it's barkypersons. Now it's DOCTORS. Sigh... My meowmy said she got 2 reminders for me to go visit doctors. Doctor Mike wants to see me to be sure I'm ok all over and Doctor Jess wants to look at my heart. Why do these doctors do this? I do not want to go into the car. I've been in the car already this year. Sigh... It's hard being a kitty. cat

It's horrible. I'm so sorry Gateway! At least the farrier and vet come to the house for the horses. Why don't kitty vets?? I do NOT like the car. Or their hospital. Evil or Very Mad

Caddy Jim's word - There are a few vet's in south jersey that DO specialize in going TO their patients rather than having the patients COME to them.

We have a few of those vets around here. They are in high demand, but I tell Gateway that he just has to stick with his doctors. They've pulled him through some really terrible things, and I trust them to take care of the little fuzzy guy. Razz

You've found great docs for Gateway and he knows them. Better not to change. Maybe he wouldn't dread car trips so much if he went for a few and got something good from it like treats, visit someone he loves, stuff like that. Then every ride wouldn't necessarily be to the vets......

Suzzzz here. We have mobile vets here, too, and if I'd started Weez with one, even in middle age, I'd feel comfortable with them now that she's old. But there's no way I'll switch now. Miss Thing is 15+ and her vet has been taking care of her all that time. He knows her little ways, including her slash-to-kill moves, and greets her visits with humor, care and skill. The 5-minute car ride and the smell at the vet's? She doesn't have to like it. She knows perfectly well it's for her own good. I have a sneaking suspicion she actually likes Dr. D. She lets him do things to her she would (literally) kill me for.

As for acclimating a cat to the car, you might get away with that if you started with a kitten and kept it up on a regular basis, but I've never personally known a cat who liked a car ride.

Yesh. Gateway just hates the car and has since he was a kitten. We tried to acclimate him, but he just cries and cries. As he's gotten older, he doesn't cry as much, but he still hates it. I think he might feel a little car sick with his little messed up heart going so fast, so I can understand.

My college kitty LOVED the car. He would get in if I had the windows down. He insisted on riding with me to the grocery store and laundromat. He would get out, sit on the trunk and wait for me to get done with my chores. Everyone in town new who Indiana Jones was, and sometimes he'd take a ride with other people. Sometimes, I'd get calls in the middle of the night to tell me that Indy was visiting at somebody's house. He was a riot.

Indy was the greatest. I haven't met a cat like him since. Gateway says he thinks the stories are just made up. He's certain that ALL kitties hate the car.

I called to make the cardiologist appointment today, and got a recording that the office is moving. It's good because they will probably have better parking, but it's bad because I will have to figure out how to get there. I guess I'll have an excuse to use the GPS thing on the phone. Gateway is insisting that I know the way so I don't keep him in the car for any longer than absolutely necessary.

Good for him. Doesn't like the car or the crate. Which reminds me I need to open it up
and sprinkle some cat nip in it.

Gateway rides in a soft bag. We tried the crate, but he would have NOTHING to do with that. GK prefers the crate. Petie doesn't care because he likes to be FREE. He wants to curl up on the back seat. We tell him that the bags/crates are safer, but he finds them insulting.

Well I think Gateway is on to something. I dropped Antonio at the vet's not too long ago
Between his weight and the crate, well it's time to lighten up. Laughing

Sue's post reminds me of something that puzzles me very much. Weezer weighs about 11 lbs, no trouble to pick up, and her crate can't weigh more than a pound or two, probably less. But once she's in it, the whole package must weigh 30 pounds! I can barely lift it! What is up with that??

I don't Suzzz, but Antonio is 11.2, I think his crate is a little larger than I've seen people use
for cats but still it feel like it weighs a ton.

Maybe kitties can increase the field of gravity inside the carrier, in an attempt to not get taken somewhere?

I think that's it! The soft bag is the weight of a gym bag -- nothing. With Gateway inside, it weighs about 100 pounds. And, he wiggles around. I'm sure they are manipulating gravity.

Gateway here. My meowmy told me that I need to visit Dr. Mike and Dr. Jess on December 12. I am not happy about going in the car, but she told me if I was good Shanta Paws would bring me special things. I decided I would try to be good, but I can't promise not to cry. The car makes me cry.

I also have some news about my shoulder. GK and I have been playing and I have an owie on my shoulder. My meowmy says it's an abscess, but I don't know what that is. All I know is that it hurts and she is putting some funny smelling stuff on it. I think it's getting better, but I wish she would stop putting that stuff on it.

I'm almost better already. I don't have to get smelly stuff on my shoulder any more. Meowmy does wash my shoulder with a warm cloth and that feels good. My fur covers up the icky sore so nobody laughs at me.

Gateway, nobody's laughing, or they better not be. We've all had battle wounds, and know they must be cared for and respected. Anybody so much as snerks, you just send them to me. Dogs included. Weezer the Defender! I like that. I'll show 'em my scars, then I'll give 'em a few of their own! Twisted Evil cat Twisted Evil

Glad you're getting better, kiddo. What a good Ma you have! Are you and GK are getting to be friends?
