Gracie's a very pretty kitty. We had a neighborhood cat like that when I was little. Her people moved, and left her in our care, which meant the care of all the rest of the neighborhood. She was certainly happier in her familiar surroundings than she would have been had she moved with them.

Speaking of mighty hunters...I woke up this morning to find a dead mouse in the middle of my living room. This is the second Sunday morning in the last month where I awoke to a dead mouse in my living room. Wesley is not as observant as I am with the dogs, and lets them out and in without turning on the outside light in the back yard. Well, Lyra, the mighty huntress, apparently caught her a shmousie and made short work of it, and one of the two of them decided that they might like to add it to the living room decor. affraid pale I just can't seem to make Wesley see the importance of TURNING ON A LIGHT ONCE IN AWHILE! (Sorry...yelling...)

was it just dead or chewed on? i don't get too bothered with dead as long as its not chewed on and i don't step on it.
a couple weeks ago (I don't know if i wrote about it or not) Cartier had a mouse in this little space under this little desk down here and a storage bin. he played it to death i think. he let me take it away and give it a buriel in the weeds (so maybe one of the ferals around here had a snack of it).

I had to laugh, too, BC, although (believe me) I feel your revulsion. Your Lyra is almost Weezer-like! I won't tell you about the half rabbit I found in my bedroom one morning when she was just a tiny kitten.

Just dead, in both cases, but what a fine Shocked thing to wake up to on a Sunday morning. Blue in his early years used to leave parts (didn't bring them inside though) for us to find, and that was horrifying. Urp I can still see in my head the picture of his proud face with a big ol' bird in his mouth, looking in the sidelight at me one morning, showing off his hunting prowess. affraid

I see my aunt's past dog Princess the sheltie wasn't the only mouser-dog in the world. I can't see adding a dead mouse as a good thing for anyone's livingroom decor.................I'm surprised Wesley didn't step on it! Then again, if he had he might turn on a light every now and then.

I know I almost stepped on it the first time it happened - almost had a grabber that morning! I call Wesley the Night Stalker because he gets by with as little light as possible in most situations, whereas I don't see very well in the dark (and neither can he if he doesn't see them bringing in dead mice!). The difference, I guess, is that I CARE about what I don't see in the dark!

And no, Lyra and Princess aren't the only mousers - Grommit was quite the hunter too! Argo chases along with Lyra, but you can see it's pretty half-hearted. Argo is a lover.

Perhaps he knows Lyra is the better hunter and is content to let her do it.

That image makes me laugh out loud. In my mind's eye I'm seeing the contortions my running partner and I used to go through if we were running at dusk when the hoppy toads were crossing the roads and trails. As I recall, neither of us ever actually landed on one, but the flailing required to avoid doing so was worthy of a gag reel!

Congrats to Huntress Lyra!

Congrats to Huntress Lyra!

I can imagine your contortions trying to avoid the toads! We have little, harmless garter snakes around here that slither across our paths, and my walking partner, who is a huge, deep-voiced, manly type of man, will jump like a little girl when he sees one. Of course, that always has me in stitches! ROTFL

And the Great White Huntress Lyra thanks you. She must defend her kingdom against vermin, you know...

Wow, with a success rate like that you could start an extermination company with Zeke as head exterminator. What a good boy he is!

Oh...and "Good Kitty," Zeke. I think that is at least #8. When he wasn't eating them, we would eventually find his kills. If he has discovered that they can be food, it's going to be harder to keep count.
