Zeke, the mighty hunter!

Post by Susan A on Wed Oct 20, 2010 10:44 am

Our once scaredy kitty, Zeke, has now become a serious mouse hunter!

Last night he got what we think is mouse #6. Perhaps he has found his true calling. It's hard to believe that this is the guy who spent his first six months with us behind the big TV. I'm more than a little creeped out that there are (sh)mousies in the house for him to hunt, but I guess that's just part of what comes from living in an old, old house out in the country. affraid

Susan I just about fell off the couch laughing when
I read that. YESH!!! That is what comes from living in
old country house. Tell Zeke, GOOD KITTY. Bearcat
would have been proud. Very Happy

Much as I hate to think about it - that's what kitties do best. Bobby likes to go out into the attached garage to hunt - sometimes for crickets, sometimes for mice. We don't often let him out there, but when we do, we make sure that we shut the door behind him, so that he doesn't bring the live mice INTO the house with him. He's done that more than once, and "fun" ensued. affraid What a Face

Ah, we have a new "Mighty Hunter" in our midst. Bearcat would indeed be proud of Zeke.

Six months doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary for a kitty to be scared like that. When I moved back to Flint, Jay Jay took about that long to calm down Smile

Like what BC said above, the mice might not be coming from the inside. Zeke, with his newly found bravery might be going to get them from outside Smile

That's a nice try ARNI, but Zeke is 100% indoor kitty.

Gracie is the outdoor huntress extraordinaire. She has more or less adopted us since her family moved out of the house next door. That little girl is a ten-pound wonder when it comes to hunting. Squirrels, bunnies, mice...you name it, she can get it. Well...that's not completely true. She gives the chickens a wide berth, and they'll steal her food in a skinny minute!

Given that the central part of this house was built in the 1750s, and was added to (in some, er, interesting ways) in the 1820s, 1920s and 1970s, there are probably lots of sneaky little ways for critters to come inside. Zeke has taken to snuggling with us when we go to bed, but then gets up in the night to go a-huntin'. This morning we had our prezzie at the bedroom door. Now that the nights are getting colder, I expect we'll see an increase in wild fauna incursions.

Whenever Jack sees a mouse, he plays with it. He hasn't killed a mouse yet. My parents have suspected Lorien killing a few mice, but we don't know since all they see is the present on the step. Snuggles flat out killed a mouse at first sight before dropping it off.

ah...tis the season for mice to come inside the houses.....but when the mouses come into the houses with the pusses they get shmooshes!
i wish he were here.there's a very clever mouse that lives in or around the house. i can't put the bags of cat chow i've been buying in the cupboard because of the nasty nibbler! (right now they are lined up on the edge of Nobe's kitty condo!)

Guess with all the pressies being left around the house you'll have to start turning on the lights at night if you get up and look where you're walking. Better that than stepping on a pressie when you're half-asleep.

Well, Sunday morning, I awoke to find a dead pressie on the throw rug in front of the front door. My suspicion there was that Bobby had polished one off outdoors, and one of our other furry wonders brought it into the house for all to enjoy.

I'm not sure if my parents have stepped in pressies before. I think finding a pressie in bed would be gross. Urp

OK, I might have missed something in translation - but what is/are "pressies"? Is that short for "presents"? In which case, yes - it would be VERY GROSS to find one in your bed!!!! Shocked

I can handle the prezzies as long as they aren't
gnawed on. Speaking of prezzies Antonio gakked
a hairball last night on the bed. So I spent the
day washing all the bedding.

Well, now Antonio must really feel at home if he's willing to gack up a hairball on your bed. Still.......not the best pressie to get. Urp

Can you find the huntress in this photo? Look closely...

This is Gracie. She belonged to family next door, but decided to hang out with us when they moved. (It's a long story, but they did not abandon her.) She's a very sweet outdoor kitty. We've taken over her feeding, and I have treated her for fleas and ear mites, so she's a whole lot more comfortable now. She's happiest in and around the barns, etc. here, and the folks next door were moving into town and then off to school. It just made more sense to keep her here ... Very Happy She's a kitty who belongs more to the place than to the people.
