Thank you, jeanebellini. I don't mind you asking your friend. It's just that we read one thing and it says one thing, we read a different book and it says something quite different. With these ratties it's been kind of "what works for our ratties?" Sometimes it's not quite the thing that is mentioned in the books.

Everyone is doing well in Rattyton. In fact, Rattyton has been upgraded. I'll send in pictures soon. Very Happy

Isn't that always the way? Books can give us a good general idea, but the kids are individuals and sometimes things work a bit differently for each one of them.

Can't wait to see the upgrades.

Update on Rattyton...

Our little ratties are doing well. I think we've found a system that is working for them and us. We also found some great, all-natural stuff to add to their water so they are not smelling of wee! Of course, we change out their bedding every couple of days as we are using little fleece coverings for their bedding. They love burrowing in the soft blankets, Sweetie most of all. It's so cute, they get all snuggled in them.

I will be posting new pictures this week, promise! We've found a good bed that they love and things are going well.

I think the ratties are FAR too cute to be covered in catnip. Laughing

How are the ratties doing with all this bad talk from the kitties on the board? I hope they aren't taking it personally. We love ratties!

The one pet rat I've ever met was very intelligent, loved to be with you, and played with toys believe it or not. Very sweet lil hooded rat.

Oh, my goodness! Shocked
Not even Desperado is allowed to feast on the ratties, so please, no take out orders!

Here is a new picture of two of the girlies on the top floor of Rattyton. They are Ghost and Sweetie...

Joshua calls this picture "My Sister." Very Happy

Tell those kitties they need to look elsewhere for their snackies!

We met with the pet sitter the other day for while we're out of town. I feel very good about her coming in and she is familar with Desperado and his health issues and has ratties of her own. I typed everything out for her and also left an emergency care permission slip so that she can seek care for them, if need be. Hopefully the need won't be! But just in case. I'm just happy EVERYONE is going to be able to be home.

I will take pictures of them in their fleecy blankets when we return. We are leaving later today. They are just pieces of fleece, cut up into the right sizes. They LOVE the softness and are so cute all curled up in the blankets.

p.s..Fiffur, I will e-mail the picture to you now. Wink

Aww! How cute! Their expressions are hilarious - and just look at those hands (calling them "feet" seems wrong, given how long the little fingers are!)

susan you're right...they look like little hands! maybe they're more like us and we're more like them than people want to admit! (now, would you rather be a rat or a monkey? Hmm......ratties don't throw their own poop,do they?)

am i seeing right? Ghost looks like she has a J in the middle of her forehead! (or a curl)

i've been watching ferrets (ferrats?) in the pet shop window the past few weeks. kinda sad that they're not rescue but rather pet store items. i don't know if you have to go through more of a house okaying (or whatever its called that a lot of rescues do...sorry brain is fuzzy..i've actually gotten some sleep for two days!)with more 'wild' critters and that's why they don't have adopting ferrats or not. i wish they would have a few dogs or cats etc in the window this time of year.
but i have thought of the Rattyton ratties when i look at them...esp when they're awake and playing around!

Re: Rattyton...

Thanks everyone! They are so cute. And those are little hands! They look just like squirrels when they're eating, holding the food in their hands and munching away. Each Rattie has her own little personality and hobbies. Ghost likes to look at us a lot from the cage. She's always interested in what is going on out with us. She also loves to follow Georgia Rose around whenever Georgia is looking in the cage. That's so cute! Slumber LOVES to run on the wheel inside the cage. She even has little callouses on her back feet! I keep a check on her to make sure she doesn't bleed or anything like that, but she's just had little callouses so far. She is our little athelete. She still does sleep a lot, though. She'll be running, running, running and then suddenly stop and go to sleep. Raya is our little hopper. When we open the cage to play with them or clean the cage, she'll be the first one out to jump on our heads or hop on our shoulders. And little Sweetie is just interested in EVERYTHING. She's our little busy-body. Very Happy

We are in California now and the day we arrived I called the pet-sitter to see how everyone was doing so far. She said that Georgia Rose was being a VERY good girl and that Desperado had come up to her and rubbed against her leg. Everyone else is doing well, too. I was particularly worried about Georgia Rose being wild for her and she knows about Desperado and the risks of him being stressed. Georgia is good for us, but she gets so excited when we have company. So far, so good with everyone!
