Navigating the Site

Post by BobCat on Mon Jun 21, 2010 9:05 am

Navigating this board is a little different, isn't it? confused I don't seem to be able to get rid of the NEW TOPIC button that appears at the bottom of the page when you're replying to a message. We'll have to get used to this feature. If you find something weird, just reply here and I'll see if I can do something about it. I tried to make this board as close a facsimile to the other one as I could.

I'm seeing two buttons at the bottom of a topic: new topic and post reply. Seems to be working so far as long as you click on the right one (literally).

Calendar Feature

Post by BobCat on Mon Jun 21, 2010 2:30 pm

If you notice, there's a Calendar on the menu bar now, and if you click on it, you'll see the birthdays that people have entered in their profiles. One noticeably absent is Fiffur's, which I know is in November. Go enter it, Fif!

You don't have to put a year... How 'bout that for a compromise?

I put mine in when I did my profile. It didn't show up? I didn't want to put the year in there and if I leave the zero in it won't take it. Says won't accept users over 99 years old! I know I feel old on rainy days, but not that old!
How do I get my birthday in there? It's the 14th.

LK I think that may be a tab under your Profile. The last one on the right, maybe? It gives you the option to X out the topic being watched.

LK - and everyone else too - I think the problem is in your Profile, under Preferences, where there is an option:

Always notify me of replies :

This option seems to be set on YES, which would email you to tell you that people have posted to your topics. Mine was set to YES also, but I thought it might have been something I clicked on unintentionally. Apparently not. For you, LK, I went in and changed the setting, so you don't have to do it. You all may want to go to your profiles and look at those settings to change that.

If that doesn't fix it, let me know.

I was getting tons of emails, too, but did a careful survey of my profile page and, while not all questions make sense to me, I think I have it under control now.

That seems like an odd setting to have as a default... I don't see a way to make the change "globally" so it may be something we remind people of when they join.

Actually, I just went back into the Admin Panel and I can't find a way to change that for all - but since we're such a small group so far, I decided to set that feature to NO for each of us. I can't imagine anyone wanting that turned on.

birthday set up won't let you leave out the year

Post by jeanebellini on Tue Jun 22, 2010 10:10 pm

unlike the older site where you could just put in your month and day and leave off the year (so its not public hold old some of us are;) )this one when you leave out the year you get the error message that it doesn't allow anyone over the age of 99 in the the forum!
i do think that's kinda funny, but i liked having birthdays where i could see 'em!

Take out the zero and it should let you save your b-day with no year - I hope.

I notice something weird in my posts - some of the smilies in my posts aren't showing as smilies. They're showing the code rather than the picture. Strange.

Magic! Laughing Actually, I uploaded the Mutts strip to Imageshack, and then used the "direct link" code but put it between the [ img ] tags. If you want help, just yell!

I think I made it stick - finally. But just like when I did it for myself, it kept claiming it did it, and yet it didn't. I did see it on the calendar now though.

If you took the date off it would definitely come off the calendar. If you can finally get the year to come off, it still stays on the calendar though.
