Moxie's really sick

Post by fiffur on Tue Sep 28, 2010 12:35 pm

My sisters' kitty Moxie has been vomiting up bile and not eating since Sunday morning. Moxie is very lethargic too, not her usual feisty self at all. My sis's trying to give her a lot of laxatone, thinking it might be a big hairball obstructing her insides. I'm worried: Moxie is only 9 and has been quite healthy with a voracious appetite until now. All that vomiting and no real water intake...............if it was me Moxie would've been at the vet's appointment or not first thing Monday am.

Need loads of vibes!

if she doesn't get a hair ball out one end or the other i suggest a trip to the vet. Buddy was only 8 and that's how he started. and i thought it was a hair ball as well.

Classic hairball presentation, but I agree that Mox needs to go to the vet soon if massive doses of lax doesn't produce. Shocked

Well, she saw a vet late yesterday afternoon. He recommended isolation so my sis could track intake/output as well as recommended forcefeeding her on top of the laxatone. If no improvement she is to go back pronto. Doesn't help that she's been grooming longhaired Annabelle a bit lately............on top of her own shedding.

My sis wasn't taking this very seriously at all, too wrapped up in the dog. Now maybe she will pay more attention, for Moxie's sake I sure hope so. Moxie has a lot of years left in her yet.

I was kittysitting this morning so my sis could go somewhere and Moxie vomited twice. Frist one was full of snotty mucus, the second puddle was nothing but stomach bile. Poor baby is at the vet as we speak. My sis is finally getting an xray and blood tests. It could be anything from a blockage, intestinal irritation, to liver, kidney, or pancreas damage. Guess we'll finally found out. Moxie still hasn't eaten anything on her own, my sis has only been able to get tiny amounts into her. NO output at all in the litterpan since she peed out all the subq fluids she got on Tuesday. Please send vibes!

Poor little Moxie! Here's hoping that the vet is able to diagnose and cure whatever is causing her distress. (We have a Moxie at our house too--a lovely little tortie girl--so we have to root for another Moxie!)

Awaiting blood test results and the xray, still no change in Moxie. She won't eat or drink unless forced, nothing in the litterpan. No real energy, and I had no trouble getting her in the carrier yesterday for her vet trip. That is NOT the Moxie I know. She hates the carrier and protests loudly at being held. I fear the worst.............
and my sis was afraid Moxie would die in her arms as she rocked her last night. I'm afraid she might not live to see the weekend............

Surprise, surprise! Not only did Moxie eat a little on her own Saturday night, but last night we got a text message that read "two real turds in the litterpan!" So I guess whatever was ailing her is finally starting to pass. We have no idea what it was so we can't prevent it from happening again, even the vet is mystified but pleased she's better. Color myself relieved..........

Re: Moxie's really sick

We now think we know what caused Moxie to be so sick for a week. My sister found feathers IN Moxie's litterbox "presents" and also discovered a hidden puke spot in the basement full of feathers. We now suspect that somehow this fat-as-a-basketball cat caught and ate a wren. Moxie still needs laxatone to help ease out the rest of it from her system, and a syringe full of watered down food. She's eating and drinking some on her own, but not her usual amount yet. I stopped to see her yesterday, and there she was: sunning herself in the patio door. She's lost weight, I could count every vertebrae in her tail and feel them along her spine. You can see she's visably lost weight when looked at from above. But she is thankfully on the mend, and goes back to the vet Thursday afternoon for an exam (with feathery litterbox present in tow) and hopefully she's well enough for her rabies shot (which is due).

My sis was complaining she spent over $200 for a bird meal. But I know if she hadn't spent it she'd have felt very guilty if Moxie had died.

Silly Moxie! You don't eat the feathers. You leave those as a "present" for your person to find. Leave them in unexpected places, like on their pillows, or where the person will step on them in the dark. This way you will get the full effect when the gift is discovered. The louder the shriek, the more your present is appreciated.

Much as I hate to say it, I prefer the dreaded *foot squish* in the middle of the night to the cat colon cleanse following the injudicious nomming of a small creature. I'm so glad Moxie is recovering and hope no small bird bones require surgery!

General Announcement to All House Cats: You are domesticated animals now! Your parents feed you nutritious and delicious food on a regular basis! You DO NOT need to chase, kill, or eat small skittery critters!!

Hoo, it's like talking to a wall, isn't it? cat

Yes it is. Moxie obviously has never caught a bird before or she'd have known wild kitties pluck the feathers off first before eating it. I've seen wild kitties take a mouthful of feathers, spit them out, and get another mouthful, spit those out.............. So far Moxie is doing okay. She scarfed so much wetfood at once her stomach rebelled and a bit of it came right back up. Soooo, smaller meals for the time being. Otherwise, she's nearly back to normal, thank Heavens.

Poor babe must feel hungry after enforced cleansing, but small regular meals should see her through.

So far they have. My sis is a lil put out at having to feed her more often as that cuts into her "me" time. But so far Moxie is doing well. She goes for a checkup this afternoon, and possibly her now-due rabies shot if the vet deems her healthy enough for it. I know Moxie's catitude is back!
