I lived in a couple of places that had gas stoves. It used scare me
to death go into the kitchen and find Ascot and Rachel asleep on top
of the stove. On occasion there was scent of singed cat hair.

Jeane, they singed their tails a few times. Mostly it was just
loose cat hair.

I don't know. I remember petting them and finding
singed tail tips. Nothing major but disconcerting none
the less.

At least they didn't go running through the house with tails ablaze! Still, the smell of singed hair isn't a pleasant one.

This whole burnt fur smell thing reminds me of what happened to poor Mikey. While we still had Mikey, there was one time my mom had lit a candle that was on the dinning table. Mikey had gotten on the table and we didn't realize his tail was over the candle. It didn't take long for us to start smell burning hair, only to realize the source of the smell was Mikey's tail over the candle. We caught Mikey's mistake in time and he may have had a small patch of fur that suffered little damage. After that, Mikey made sure to have his tail away from burning candles.

Nothing like singed fur to add to the dining
ambience.

He learned quickly that he didn't want singed fur again. I may post a picture of Mikey somewhere here, but it will be a matter of scanning the picture.

i'm picturing all the kitties that get singed with long fur....i hope they all had long fur!

stupid music just got stuck in my head..with new lyrics...(you might know the tune if you want the MDA telethon cuz Jerry Lewis sings it every year)

When you're a cat keep your tail up high stay away from flames....we're' not afraid of the dark...your tail's not a torch so keep it high...walk on...walk on....keep the flames only in your heart!

(okay,that's pretty crappy)

Mikey was more like a domestic medium hair, but the vet had him as a DLH. confused Mikey had a PLUMED tail and the rest of his fur was between short and long.

Boo wants everybody to know that she has the best
plume in the universe. In fact she wants to brag on her
adventures today.

Hi, y'all today I went for a stroll outside. I put the fear of
Bast in the squirrels today. They were so frightened that
they retreated screaming into the pecan tree. Boo

well, they should stay up that tree and hide their nuts in it....i know it doesn't get as cold and snowy down there as up here but i'm sure there are lean times in the winter even for TX squirrelies!

even though Judy's kids weren't long hair by any means...but a few of them have fur that's similar to a maine coon but in the short version..there's a cottony or downy undercoat. Buddy was like that....Carter is like that and salem is something like that.

well,ya never know...if a LOT of squirrels were out all at once their might be a stand off.....squirrels have those tiny little 'hands' i bet they could tie strong knots! (I have a mind picture of a cat tied to a tree surrounded by squirrels and Bip and Bop on a branch armed with pecans!)

Guess there must be so many pecans they can afford to be wasteful. Still, I hope some other wildlife takes advantage of that waste, even if it's only ants and beetles who eat the leftovers. Otherwise, I'd be picking as many as I could to keep them from going to waste with one bite in them.
