fluff the powder is like if you took the center of a malted milk ball and crushed it;) not 100% but close enough to give you an idea. i came in two flavors whenever i'd find it...plain and chocolate.

ovaltine mix is like malted mix. I love malted milks. I loved to get a malted at the luncheonetter when I was a kid, mixed in that steel mixing glass, and they used to give you the whole thing, not a little bit. Mmmmmmm
Baskin Robbins makes a pretty good malt but its so expensive now I rarely indulge I usually ask them to throw in a little extra malt powder. I don't thin they have it now, but a couple of years ago they had a special flavor called March malted Madness, which was chocolate malt ice cream with malted milk balls. I used to have them make me a malted using that.

Guess what is back! BONOMOS TURKISH TAFFEE. I saw an advertisement in a trade magazine I get. It is being made now by Pennsylvnia Dutch candies. You can find alot of their stuff in museum or attraction gift shops, and I'm pretty sure they sell their products in Cracker barrell restaurants

they probably do have it at Cracker Barrel (the one and only time i was in one i loaded up on some old candies i either hadn't seen since a kid or had only read about or seen on the Food Network). But they might have it at 5 and Below (they had French Chew which was the next best thing to Bonomo).
they also have had it at Vermont Country store for a month or two. they had it on sale last week but i couldn't get my head around spending more than $1 a piece of the stuff PLUS shipping. Here's a link to the Vermont Country Store page...its about $1.75-$1.80 each plus shipping...you can only get it in a box for 8 i believe.

every year i say i'm going to order some Ice Cubes for my bd and again at christmas but when the time comes around they never have free shipping (I can't remember when i last paid for shipping...i'm cheap..if they want my business i'm not paying to have it shipped;) ) and the little tiny squares of chocolate come to over 50cents each....its just not worth it. IF they gave lower prices for the more you buy and free shipping i'd probably buy at least once a year. (but then again, if the taste of the Ice Cubes have changed it won't be worth it to me...i know the last time i got them (and some places only have this size) the ones in the blue and silver wrappers don't taste like the ones in the gold and red wrappers do.

My sister and I used to love Ice Cubes but they were always expensive. I saw them advertized in the vermont Country store also. I think the local supermarket by me gets them. I'll check it out and the next time I know we are getting together, jeane, i'll get some for you

lk if you find them near you let me know how much they are and i'll send ya the money;)
fiff Ice Cubes are little chocolate squares about 1" square and maybe 1/4 or 1/2" thick....they're from Germany so the chocolate doesn't taste like the chemically stuff we get in the US. here is the link to the thicker ones at Vermont Country Store...
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/products/Food-Candy/Candy-Chocolate/Chocolates/Ice-Cube-Chocolates.html?evar3=search

when i was a kid they (the thinner version...the only kind i ever saw back then)were maybe a nickel a piece...we'd get 5 or 6 in our christmas stocking.

the taste was wonderful. I wonder if it is still the same.

I much prefer German chocolate to US , Ritter makes a good chocolate. I first had that when I was in germany, my Aunt's last name was Ritter, and they used to keep bars on hand to give out in their business (Wish that was their actual business, LOL) I also love Toblerone , which I also ate for the first time in Germany.

for US chocolate my favorite is Goldberger's Peanut Chews.

i don't know who makes them but i really like Squirrel Nut Zippers...i know its a company on the east coast ...don't know if its Necco or what. i get them at 5 and Below whenever i go in there;)

i can't spell it..but Gheradelli..i think its in CA. They make really good chocolate here in the states. Otherwise the only place that makes good chocolate is probably local indy places that most people never hear of. (there's a place here in town that i've one chocolate from years ago...its really expensive but its been on the Food Network.) the big US companies like Hershey and Mars taste like chemicals to me. I have to reallly be craving to eat a hershey bar (they do make good s'mores).

chocolate malt ice cream!!!

Post by jeanebellini on Thu Mar 24, 2011 4:39 pm

i know LK likes malted ice cream and look what i found through an email today:)
http://www.schwans.com/products/productDetail.aspx?id=51793&c1=9403&c2=11462
we used to get a lot of stuff from schwans when i was back home on the farm. it wasn't easy for mom to get out and get groceries and they were great for lots of supplies. i remember they had the best pizzas we could find and the ice cream was always realllllly good;) (i didn't realize they were still in business....seeing that yellow truck pull into the driveway was almost like seeing Santa coming up the road!).

their prices aren't bad...they're the same or cheaper than the grocery store and you don't have to worry about standing in line! (or wasting paper or plastic bags!)i like they're holding on to the old tradition(I bet it helps a lot of folks who can't get around very well, don't have cars or are otherwise homebound).

yummy. I see they deliver to my zip code but don't know if they would deliver one carton of ice cream.

I think haagen Daz put out a malted milk ice cream at one time. I seem to remember getting it. Right now I'm zoning on their limited edition amaretto almond crunch
