Nabisco used to make them. They 'retired' them years ago. They were sooooo good! I did find a copycat recipe I might try:

NABISCO HEYDAY BARS (copycat recipe)

1 (9 oz.) package of vanilla sugar wafers
1 (14 oz.) bag caramels
1/4 cup of water
3 or 4 cups chopped peanuts
1 (8 oz.) Hershey's Chocolate Bar (Milk or Dark)

Separate the sugar wafers with a knife, carefully removing the filling, so that all you have left are the wafers themselves. Stack the empty wafers in stacks of 3.

On a sheet of wax paper, take one (1) wafer from each stack, and lay them out on the wax paper.

Put the caramels in a microwave safe bowl and add the water to them. Microwave them on high for 5 minutes, stopping after each minute to stir them.

When the caramel is completely melted, use a spoon to drizzle it on each wafer, doing on 5 at a time, then put a second wafer from the stack on each when you finish. Drizzle caramel on all the remaining wafers on the wax paper the same way, 5 at a time. Drizzle caramel on all the cookies you just finished, and add the third wafer to each of them. You should end up with between 20 and 25 completed cookies with three wafers each with caramel in between.

Put the chopped peanuts in a bowl.

Using a pair of tongs, dip each cookie in the melted caramel, drain off the excess caramel, then roll in the peanuts, completely covering the cookie, and set on wax paper. Finish all the remaining cookies the same way.

After letting the cookies sit for ten minutes to set, break up the chocolate bar in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave on high 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time, until its completely melted.

Using a spoon, drizzle the chocolate in stripes over the cookies. Let the cookies rest until completely set.

Notes from author: "I had been annoyed for years that Nabisco had stopped making Heydays, one of my favorite cookies from my youth, that I decided to create a recipe on my own. These measurements are just estimates since I started with much more of each ingredient and just played it by ear when I was making them. Everyone that tried them said they were similar to the old Heydays, and I enjoyed them myself. I think next time I will use dark chocolate instead, but that's just a personal preference.T hey are labor intensive, but for me they were worth it."

Makes 20-25 cookies

they have the halloween ones in our grocery stores....the Hallmark store had a little candy area where you could pick what you wanted and get as little or as much as you want. they had the christmas and easter for a while but i don't see that candy any more.it was a more gourmet version and not simply the Brach at the grocery store.

I'm still trying to find those clear blue Michigan Mint candies, but I refuse to buy a huge 'assorted' bag of Halloween candy to get a dozen of those. I get no trick or treaters to give the rest of the bag to.......

Yes, those sound like them. They're round too and a pretty clearish turquoise color. Don't know if there's a difference or not, will have to taste them to tell. I just know they were called Michigan Mint candy here when I was a kid and I loved them.

i looked in the grocery store and they didn't have them....but there's still cvs and kmart...they're actually more like something i'd use if i had a sore throat than as a candy but i have had them.there's a hall's mint (throat cooler, not a cough drop) that is the same color and taste though stronger.

Mallomars.....they brought them back to the grocery store (they're considered a seasonal thing) and have them on sale (reg price over $4...on sale for $1.99)so i splurged.....man those are good! dark chocolate over marshmallow and a little bit of graham cracker.
for some reason they're considered rare or haRd to find and wind up in the old time candy places on the net!

I've never seen them covered in chocolate. But the ones covered in coconut are called Snowballs here and seem to be the only ones sent to our stores.

Nope, these are a cookie with a huge pile of marshmellow fluff covered in coconut.

Anyone seen Banana Flips anywhere? My mom and I have been looking everywhere for them.

(I know that Keebler has brought some some things i haven't seen in decades like these cookies that are similar to but better than those somoa Girl Scout cookies).

No, the snowballs have only coconut covering them, no cherry, though that would be nice.

(they also sold those windmill cookies....they're sort of a gingerbready spice cookie shaped like a windmill...and chocolate teddy bear cookies the same way...i remember going in and getting three of each or one of each etc).

My mom has been looking everywhere for those Maple Leaf cookies, but we can't find them in the stores anymore. She liked those better than the windmill cookies.

maple leaf cookies? are they maple leaves with maple flavored 'filling' (like an oreo is filled but with maple flavored stuff and i think the cookie part has maple flavoring)? they sell those at Trader Joe's and last year they had another brand at the regular grocery store. they're too expensive for me to buy but i remember getting one package as a special treat.
i miss the little maple suger leaves (and santas at christmas) that were around where i grew up. you can still get them at places like the Vermont Country Store but they cost a lot more than i'm willing to pay!
