Ace had a good day. He's eating well, and getting along with the kittens as well as a couple of the older cats that like to sleep in the computer room. He's been looking out the door, but he's content to stay in the room and avoid the dogs for now.

Glad to hear that Ace is doing well. Poor soul his world has
fallen apart and he's still not sure what to make of the new one.

Give him time, he's still adjusting while grieving. Glad he's getting along with the kitties so far. Dealing with the dogs can come later when he's finally ready for it.

Ace is getting along very well with the kittens and the big cats that hang out in his room. The last few days, we've been leaving the door open (with a baby gate in place) and Ace has been sitting in the doorway watching the dogs and the cats that haven't been in the room. Last night he jumped out, but he quickly changed his mind and hopped back into the room. He's actually progressing pretty well, especially for a senior cat used to his own house and routine.

It sounds like he's almost ready to explore the rest of the house, but it's good he has a safe haven to hop back into. Maybe if he were introduced to one dog at a time through the gate? And the other kitties too? Maybe that would make him feel a bit more comfy in a new home with so many other furkids around?

I agree that he is progressing well considering he was not surrounded by so many other furkids, and is now living with a new family.

How is Ace this weekend? Has he "broken out of his shell" (so to speak)?

Ace was kind of grumpy today, but not with the little kittens. He hissed at Keira and at Groucho. Groucho probably deserved it, though. Ace still doesn't want to come out of the room much, but he's made a couple of quick exploratory hops out, followed by equally quick hops back in. There's an awful lot of activity here that he's not used to, so it's ok if he takes his time.

Ace spent most of today outside the "cat room," and he seemed to be enjoying snooping around.

Well that is fantastic news. A snoopy kitty is a happy kitty, right? (And Gateway says, "Ace, don't listen to them when they tell you about curiosity and the cat. I am always curious and I've had lots of fun adventures!")

Sounds like good progress to me! Coming out to investigate, even if only for a few minutes, is still progress in the right direction. There's a lot for Ace to get used to, and he's taking it slowly. Wise kitty. Hissing is probably his way of telling the others: Don't mess with me and I won't mess with you. Hissing is okay, that should pass in time.

Ace is eight years old, so he is adjusting very well. He was anxious to get out and explore this morning, and was happy to see everyone, feline and otherwise, outside the door.
