I worked at home yesterday, and saw a pair of wrens building a nest in the hanging pot of pansies on my porch. One of them was hopping around on the ceiling fan out there, and the other was coming/going from the bush to bring nest material. I'll have to be careful when I water.

Awwww...they're making their winter home. I bet they have babies in that same nest in the spring. I'd use a watering can with a narrow spout for that plant. Hopefully you won't get divebombed too badly by those wrens.

I have a few lil birds using my birdhouse as their winter residence. They sing for me every morning sitting on the railing. If it's nasty weather they perch on the plant pots behind the tarp and sing. I have the birdhouse hanging just barely behind the tarp...they can get to it easily but that tarp blocks most of the wind and weather.

I saw a Coopers Hawk from the kitchen window today. At point he/she was sitting on a glass top table. Then he/she hopped down an was checking out the herb garden that has a huge rosemary bush in it along with oregano that has run amok. I don't know what he/she was looking for but it was really cool.

I wonder if a field mouse was scraping around under the herbs.

Yesterday, Bingo found the raccoon. It was eating birdseed when he went out for his night time potty break. He was off like a shot chasing the raccoon. The thing scooted under one of the outbuildings, but he hasn't forgotten. Every time he goes outside, he sniffs around there. I hope he convinces the raccoon to move on. I'm tired of having raccoon feeders.

I hope just the fact that Bingo keeps checking out their hidey hole that the raccoon will just move on.

The hawk might not have been looking for a mouse (a snack in their view) but a bigger flying lunch hiding in the bushes. The hawks here check out the birdfeeders....one is so bold as to perch on the shepherds hook the feeder hangs from!

The song birds are very quiet when our hawks are soaring around. I haven't seen the owl that used to live in our sycamore tree. I wonder if he moved out.

The jays and squirrels go crazy when they are predators about.

I'm sitting here watching Trina being entertained by a squirrel on the back porch. I guess I should throw some shoes and put out some food for them.

Is Trina just laying there watching, tail twitching or is she making lil mewy sounds too. Can the squirrel see her watching him?

No, she is at the back door. All excited, chattering, trilling complete with tail twitching. <<<<>>> Antonio has gone back to bed.

I take it Antonio is soooo over squirrel watching?

Bet Trina would take off after that squirrel given half a chance.

Actually he got in and helped. He does keep an eye out for the Rodent Patrol so I will get up and put breakfast out for them. He only does it in the morning. Right Trina is sitting on the chair watching the back porch very intently.

We have our first regular squirrel in 15 years visiting the bird feeder. He sits underneath because our birds are slobs. They throw a bunch of the seed on the ground and the squirrel just goes around on the ground and picks up the seeds. The cats are fascinated by him, and Bingo likes to bark at him. He just hops into the tree and glares at the dog. Smile

I can imagine the look on Bingo's face....and the kitties too. We also have a squirrel who cleans up under our feeders. We finally got a polite squirrel instead of the rude one we had last summer. That rude squirrel would chase the birds away from the feeder!

I bet he was a fatty!

The birds somehow got the top of one of the feeders open. When the sun came up this morning, I saw a bird IN the feeder stuffing himself. Smile

Yes, that squirrel was so fat he could barely reach to scratch his own behind.

I wish you'd had a camera to get a pic of that too. Must've been quite a sight. Was he able to get out of the feeder when he was done stuffing himself?

He flew out when we approached the feeder. We shut the opening, and it's been shut ever since. I'm not sure how it opened.

We have a tiny baby raccoon by the big pine tree in our back yard. My husband saw him climb/scramble down, and now he's hiding in the stuff that's piled around the trunk. He is making little chirping sounds. I hope his mom comes for him once it's dark. If he is still there in the morning, I'll call a wildlife rehab person and see what I should do. I can get him if I put on gloves. I don't want to mess with him while his mom might be around though. Those things are mean.

The poor little guy is still there. He doesn't look like he moves really well. I don't know if he's too young, or if he's hurt. I put out some soft cat food in hopes that he's old enough to eat it. There's a rehabilitation guy not too far away. I'll call him tomorrow.
