the end of Cathy

Post by jeanebellini on Thu Aug 12, 2010 5:46 pm

...the comic that is.
man...this WAS a slow news day...or else i need to stop watching the news!
Cathy G( can't spell her name..sorry) is ending the strip so she can spend more time with her family. I didn't know she was....59? (I swear i heard 69 but i don't think she's that old)

sorry to say,i thought she ended the strip several years ago and they were printing repeats!

I've always liked Cathy. It was a great strip for us working/single gals for a long time. It had it's stale spots, but every strip has those. After all, who can be creative and funny every single day? I have a GREAT old Cathy strip in a frame at work. Cathy is trying to tell her friend Andrea about her day at work and Andrea is dealing with her baby daughter. Andrea basically says stop your whining, the role of mother needs infinite care and patience, attendence to a child's every need. Cathy cries that that's true of her job, too, except the difference is, her job will never grow up! I love that! I wish I could find the strip online.

God, I think I remember that strip! Wish I could find it online too. I was kinda sad to read that the strip was ending, I read Cathy every day. Now that she's married her life isn't any easier or sane.

I couldn't find a website with more than the past month's worth of strips. Wish I had access to the 30 books they've had...............it's probably in one of them.

I don't think she's ever gone to any cons, too busy raising kids and such. Any idea approximately when that strip was published? That would narrow down which books it might be in, and maybe the library can borrow it from somewhere so I can look for it.

Wish she would do that, maybe if she saw how many fans she has and how much the strip means to us she'd do the occasional Cathy special? I could see it as a holiday special ala Peanuts, can't you?

I, too, could not find a website for Cathy Guisewite and don't remember any TV specials, but I did find this, which I liked very much, especially the pet angle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathy_Guisewite
it says on there Cathy was an animate program on CBS in 1987.

I didn't realize the strip had ended . It used to run in the news here but they discontinued it.
I found out it had ended because of a 2 day appearance in Pearls before Swine where Cathy's Ghost invaded the strip.

and come to think of it, last week Bip and Bop dropped an acorn on Cathy's head. Ack!

It ended October 3rd, with Cathy announcing she was expecting a baby girl and patting her tummy. www.gocomics.com/cathy/2010/10/03

They've been rerunning the strips from 1999.

I've also seen the multiple comic tributes to Cathy's passing. There was almost an entire weeks' worth on Candorville and now at least 3 on Pearls Before Swine, plus the Mutts one.

i guess it beats killing somebody off or making it all 'they were all really dead all the time'. Can't say i'll miss it cuz i haven't been reading it in probably 10 yrs.
Now..if the store in Retail closed down and the strip stopped THAT i would miss.
